Period Late, Tubal Ligation 2007

Period Late, Tubal Ligation 2007

I had a tubal ligation in 2007 (clips only).  My period was due July 18th (Today is July 24th).  A week before I was expecting my period I had cramps and went to the bathroom to find a pink discharge (sorry if TMI).  I didn't think anything of just thought my period was being squirley and coming early even though I am a regular 28 day cycle kind of girl.  Needless to say, my period has not come.  I am slightly worried because my periods are extremely regular.  I took a HPT yesterday (July 23), it was negative.  I have heard that ectopic pregnancies cause low HCG levels.  So I have two questions...1) What is the chance of pregnancy after a tubal ligation?  2) Is it possible the spotting I experienced was implantation bleeding and I am having an ectopic pregancy?  Please help...with my last pregnancy the HPT didn't show positive until 8 weeks...

Stephanie,

The chance of a pregnancy after a tubal ligation is very slim. Although, it does happen from time to time.  I would probably  retake a HPT. If it continues to state"negative' then I would make an appointment with your GYN. I am in the same situation at the time being. I am currently 3 days late and I had a Tubal in May 2008. I am going to just wait a few more days then try a HPT. Sometimes, stress adn lack of sleep can delay your menstrual cycle.  What signs and symptoms have you been having? WIth an ectopic preganancy you may or may not have any symptoms until later on except for(not limited too): missed period, bleeding, abdominal pain. If you start to feel a sharp pain usually in your right shoulder you need to see a healthcare professional immediately. This could possible be a ruptured tube. Hope this helps some. Good luck.
