Persistent bacterial vaginosis after treatment during early pregnancy?

Persistent bacterial vaginosis after treatment during early pregnancy?

I was diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis at 5 weeks of pregnancy by a coincidental routine check-up.  Symptom includes itching.  Mine is occasional itching at one particular area.  Dr. suggested to treated me with Metronidazole 500mg twice a day for 7 days because bacterial vaginosis has a history of causing preterm labor and early miscarriage.  After treatment, symptoms remains.  Dr. told me the treatment target excessive bacterias but sometimes overkill and result in yeast infection.  I still feel the itch, but no discharge.  Doesn't yeast infection have a distinction discharge?  Did anyone experience this.  Should I try some yeast infection cream?  I have had yeast problem before.  It's a bit frustrating, especially having to deal with the pain of my abnormally large ovarian cyst at the same time.

I was diagnosed with this same condition and was put on antibiotics for it. My doc prescribed ampicillian 500mg every 6 hours. If you still have symptoms I'd have your doc check you again. Hope this helps.
Good luck

I have had 3 second trimester miscariages.  My Dr. found BV my last pregnancy at about 15 weeks.  Treated with antibiotics for 7 days.  I ended up in the hospital with dehydration.  They kept me on antibiotic by IV.  3 weeks later no signs of BV, but my son Wyatt was born at 18 weeks.  At birth there were still no signs of BV.  I had no signs of BV, except heavy discharge which they said could be normal but with my history they checked and found it.  It obviously didn't help me, but good luck to you.

It's been a while since this post, Gili, but what happened with your pregnancy?

I ask because I miscarried at 10 1/2 weeks and I also had BV at the time of conception and during the pregnancy. The doctor told me they couldn't prescribe anything the first trimester to treat the infection.

After the DNC I was treated with Clandomycin (vaginally) and it worked. My husband also took a 10 day treatment of Clandomycin (orally) just in case we were passing it back and forth to each other. I've read, and the MD has said BV is not sexually transmitted, but I wanted to be as safe as possible for the next pregnancy.

We're going to try again in March.
