Placenta Previa and risk of miscarriage, need advice!!

by Myfirstbaby, Apr 11, 2007 12:00AM
Hi. I am 26year-old and 16weeks of pregnancy.
Fours days ago i started to bleed (light red when i go to toilet).
Doctors had check me and said i have placenta previa.
Also i was prescribed with cefalexin 250mg for one week as Doctor detected urine infection. I will have a scan in 6 weeks more.

Today I almost stop bleeding. I am very worried because I don't want to miscarriage my first baby. I am very sad, before i had a normal pregnancy and i was having a very normal life.
But now, everything is different, because i don't know what to do and what not to do.
I would like to hear advices. I hope don't have any miscarriage and also the placenta comes back to normal possition in future.

although i don't know much about your condition, one of my girlfriends had it, and was told she may not be able to deliver vag., but after her next ultrasound the placenta had moved and she was able to deliver vag...will be thinking of you.  try not to stress too much...best wishes

My placenta was found lying low (more or less the same) at week 20 and then it moved out of the way. No one mentoioned mc, they said there was no risk for the baby at all. What can happen is that if it is still in that position you will be given a C-section to avoid you bleeding to death when giving birth. Don't panic! They won't let that happen!  And it is very likely that it moved out of the way anyway, you are still early in pregnancy. Good luck and try not to worry

i also am 16 weeks, 2weeks ago they told me i have marginal placenta previa, i was put o bedrest, then i went to a specialist  for this problem and another problem , but the specialist told me most woman early in pregnancy have this, but he also said there is no reason for me to be on bedrest,he said it normally changes later  on. just take it easy you will be ok,,,,  i go every 2  weeks for sonograms , to monitor this...  i will pray for you

I agree with the other ladies. As your uterus grows, the placenta generally moves up and grows, too. Best wishes.

I also have placenta previa.  I bled from weeks 8-12 and have not bled since.  I am currently 27 w pregnant and go back on the 20th for another u/s to see if placenta previa is still there or resolved.  Hang in there.  I know it is stressful and worrisome but really it is very common and most always (like 90% of the time or more) resolves itself by the third trimester.  Just take it easy.  I am sure it will all work out.

I had a low lying placenta at 18 weeks, but I never bled. At 7 months, when they did another U/S It went away on its own...I always carried low anyways. But it turned out OK, Best of luck and I hope all goes well for you!

Just a note...not all placentas will move out of the way.  I was one who's placenta was just barely attached to my cervix so it didn't move.  I was told not to worry and to resume normal activity.  They didn't tell me not to have sex, so I did and nearly bled to death.  It was very frightening and I am not trying to scare you, but you need to INSIST on an ultasound that shows your placenta has moved out of the way before you let anyone (doctors included) tell you not to worry!  I was also on "partial" bed rest after hemmoraging, but I had a hard time staying still...I had SO much energy!  I actually started bleeding again two times.  The last time I was at 34 weeks so they went ahead and delivered my baby via C-section.  SO...DO be careful, take it easy, insist on ultrasounds to make sure you are in the clear.  DONT have intercourse AT ALL, or bend, stoop, or lift too much (make someone else vacuume and take the laundry baskets up and down stairs).  My doctor had a great reputation for high-risk pregnancies, but in my case, he was a little too careless and forgot to give me advice that could have made my pregancy a lot less stressful.  Good luck, and remember chances are you will be FINE, but be SURE before you resume regular activity!!!!!

If you are already 16 weeks then most likely your baby will be ok.
There are alot of people who have plecenta previa accompanied by bleeding.
I have heard of many people being put on bed rest, and not being able to do things like stand for longer than 10 minutes or have sex for the duration of their pregnancy, but they all came out with healthy babies. . .
As long as your doctor is aware of your condition and closely monitoring you, then you should be ok.
Just try to keep a positive attitude for the babies sake :)
Good luck!!
