Placenta Privia?

by niņa, Feb 22, 2004 12:00AM
Hi,

I just went for an Ultra Sound because my size was less than my due date. Everything went fine and I ended up being a day ahead of what they were initially telling me.  I am in my 16th week...due on 08/08.  However, the Sonogram tech said that the tip of my placenta is still on my cervix. I started reading about it in my books and each book said it is not a good thing.  The sonogram tech said that most people have this problem during this time period of pregnancy and that it usually migrates in the right place.  Has anyone ever heard of this or had this problem and it fixed itself?  Thanks...

I had placenta previa early in my pregnancy with my DD.  It did correct itself so I wouldn't worry too much about it.  Try to relax and I am sure your OB will be following it closely.

I had the same thing, and my u/s doctor called in placenta previa and my regular ob couldn't believe he called it that, because it is so normal at that early stage in pregnancy.  Mine migrated no problem, and I'm sure yours will too, so try not to worry.

Hello! I experienced the same thing but just found it during my labor period. During my early pregnancy i didn't undergone ultrasound coz i wanted to be surprised 'bout my baby's sexuality. I used to consult also midwife for my delivery but wasn't happened coz i was brought immediately to the nearest hospital that time because lots of blood came out from me. I undergone ceasarian operation because this case (placenta privia) is not possible on normal delivery.

i'm currently going through a similar thing i'm 25 weeks and will find out in march if my placenta has moved as i am completely block with no way out for littlen but they will keep an eye on you so don't worry. I got told if there was any sign of blood go straight to the hospital. But they also said if its going to move it will do so around 28 weeks. All I would say is try and relax and not to worry about it getting stressed will not help you or the baby.
hope this helps vikki

does anyone know if you had placent previa will it occurs everytime you get pregnant? with my first pregnancy i didn't have any problems, i delivered naturally. but in my second pregnancy i had placenta privia. i didn't know that until i went into labour and they told me that my baby died and that was what caused her to die. she was due the next day. i didn't have any problems with the pregnancy at all. the next time i got pregnant i had a lot of bleeding, puring blood. the doctors did mention that the placenta was a little low but they didn't say that it was something to worry about. about 6months into my pregnancy i was admitted into the hospital for two days and i had my son 6months pre-mature. he died a week later. so i wanted to know if placenta previa is something that if it happens once it will happen every time after. sorry if my story broke anyones spirit but i just wanted to share my story. Those of you that have the condition right now i will pray that you are more fortunate than me.

so sorry to hear of your losses, I have no idea.  Have you talked to your Dr. about it?  I am almost 7 weeks pregnant and I  had an ablation done 5 months ago so I've heard that it can be dangerous so that's why I am here.

i haven't spoken to anyone. i wwant to have another child, bu t not right now, and i really want to know if it will occur again. i use to go to the public hospital they don't really explain things to you. now that i am doing better for my self and i can afford to go  to a private doctor i will find one and talk to them.

Pressious,   I'm so sorry for your losses.

I do think though that you need to go back to the doc you had during your full term stillborn pregnancy - that doesn't sound like Placenta Previa.  The problem with Placenta Previa is it causes massive blood loss.  Your third pregnancy sounds like typical symptoms for Placenta Previa.

Could you have lost your second baby from placenta abrupto,  maybe?  (Where the placenta tears away from the uterine wall,  often in labor,  and the baby doesn't get oxygen).

Before you make decisions about your risks in the future you really need to get a better idea of what caused your second baby to not make it.

Best wishes,  I hope in the future you are successful in carrying a fullterm healthy baby.
