Please help, beta slowing?

by ntaylor, Oct 03, 2007 04:58PM
12dpo 353
15dpo1807 doubled in 31 hours
17dpo 2744 doubling time 76 hours

What do you think of this? I'm not hopeful anymore. I've done everything different, everything I can to not miscarry again and it looks like that is what will happen, even with my stupid higher than normal numbers. Is this ever ok? I used clomid, and all I can hope is that it's a vanishing twin. Now, I have no more betas only an US in a week. What do I do until then?

Don't lose hope, your #'s look fine.

by ntaylor, Oct 03, 2007 05:11PM
But they didn't double they slowed way down. The nurse said they don't slow down until 6 weeks. Why do you think they look fine?

by alaysha, Oct 03, 2007 05:17PM
They are supposed to double evert 24-48 so not doubling could be a bad sign. However just try to relax (stressing is never good) Your ultrasound should be able to give you more info.

I thought (??) I read somewhere that they actually should double every 48-72 hours.  Did you have the blood draws at he same time of day...just wondering how many hours actually passed?  I wouldn't worry yet - I think they look OK, they are high and they are still going up.

by ntaylor, Oct 03, 2007 05:40PM
46 hours had passed, but with a doubling time of 76 hours that's not even every 3 days.

Don't worry - these numbers are only indicators.  Will they draw another beta for you in the meantime???  That may ease your mind in the time before your ultrasound.  Or maybe they can move your u/s up, I'd push for that.  It's very hard waiting - I can totally relate.  Try to think positive...I still think your numbers are good.

Don't give up hope.  My regular OB won't even check HCG because she says it is so unreliable.  I know how stessful this is.  Hang in there.

Would it give you peace of mind if you called your doctor directly?

mlb1234 is correct. Your #'s are supposed to double every 48-72 hours. (not 24-48)

THanks everyone for responding. I've just been crying since I heard the number. They don't want to do the US till next week, since I'm only 4 weeks 3 days today, they say they probably wouldn't see much. They don't want to do another hcg, which I think it odd. Maybe they suspect vanishing twin? It just doesn't make sense that they would start out so good and high to go bad. I don't know, I just don't have the best luck being one of the one's that were in the percentage of everything being ok even when the numbers are off. It's all too familiar.

My clinic won't do hCG draws after a while for this very reason.  They say the numbers can vary widely in the same DAY, and all they do is freak people out.  Don't lose hope!  Your numbers are OK.

Well, I had a few 3's not double in the very beginning and have a beautiful dd. They were even nasty and made sure they told me my 3's didn't double.

Thanks. I've been researching and all over it says from 1200-6000 levels double in 72-96 hours and after 6000 over 96 hours. So technically I'm in the clear. But I did go from a 30 hour doubling time to a 76 hour doubling time, so I don't know how significant that is. Is it true they slow down?

by dbestone, Oct 03, 2007 10:35PM
they do slow done after they reach a certain amount. even so, they are supposed to double every 48-72 hours. according to your numbers , they did exactly that. the 76 hour frame could have been off for numerous reasons. the main one being that the blood wasnt drawn at the same time of the day. i would try to relax, and look forward to your u/s...... and i just realized, your numbers seem really high to be this early on. could really be twins. at 4 weeks, i dont think i even made 1000. now im 17w6d with my baby boy. after a m/c in may, i worried myself also, but my dr only ran my levels twice, and that was to indicate them doubling at least once. after that, my next step was the u/s for the heartbeat. good luck to you, and you'll be in my thoughts.

by mlb1234, Oct 04, 2007 07:57AM
My dr did the same - only ran my hcg twice and got a doubling.  They didn't check hcg anymore after that.  Am wondering why they drew the third on you anyways!!!  It was hard to wait for the first ultrasound (I was in panic mode right before it) but it was totally worth it now.  Try to think positive - I think you are in good shape!!!
