Poly Cystic Ovaries and bicornuate uterus

by Tima, May 13, 2005 12:00AM
My husband and I've been trying to get pregnant for past 1.5yrs. I have PCO and bicornuate uterus. Been on Clomid and actos. Did not conceive yet. Do you know of someone with this condition? Is is hard to get pregnant with these diagnosis?

I have PCOS but not the bicornate (sp?) uterus and it was very very hard for us to conceive. I tried Clomid for 2 cycles and it didn't work. and I tried Metformin for awhile too with no results. what finally did work was cutting all sugar out of my diet and watching my "starchy" carbs ((white bread, crackers, potatoes, corn, carrots etc). Turns out I have insulin resistance (very sensitive to carbs) and it was throwing off my whole system. Once we figured that out we got pregnant the first cycle... currenly I'm 24 weeks so there is hope. :o) Hang in there!!

was there a test that they did to see if you were insulin resistant? or just process of elimination?

it was the 3 hour diabetes screen... i majorly failed the 1 hour and then only slighty passed the 3 hour...

Did you have the screen done pre-pregnancy or after you conceived?

by Stacie30, May 15, 2005 12:00AM
actually both. i had the screen done early in a pregnancy that I later miscarried and then had them done again after the miscarriage to confirm the resulits (along with thyroid testing, which i also happen to have a problem with).

i was majorly feeling like a pin cushion by the time it was all over with... .LOL

good to know! I know weight issues are common with pcos and I had just lost 30lbs prior to getting pg this time thru weight watchers and exercise. Then when I became pg I could not exercise, high risk and narcolepsy(lol). I would fall asleep the moment I came home from work. SO now after miscarraige I am struggling to get back to exercising. But I know it is necessary, it reduces insulin. I am going to talk to dr about screening though. thanks for the input and 1 more thing, how long after miscarraige did you get pregnant?

it took 18 months.

sounds like exactly what happened to me. i was exercising and lost 35 lbs and got pregnant- stopped exercising and got pregnant... then miscarried

then I tried to destress my life and went on the South Beach diet (it gets rid of insulin resistance) I got pregnant the first cycle I tried that... now that I know how to eat (what carbs I can handle and what carbs I can't) I'm doing much much better. The baby is healthy and I actually weigh 10 lbs less right now than when I got pregnant (doc says that is perfectly healthy for someone my size as long as the baby is growing)

look into the south beach diet, if not for weight loss, then to do something about the insulin resistance. you'll be amazed how much better you feel.

Hello Tima, we are an european(Spain) couple with bicornuate uterus and PCOs too. We have recently known these diagnosis and we are going to trying to get pregnant.

We are looking for information too and we have to go to talk with our doctor in the fertility clinic in two weeks.

If we find anything, weŽll tell you.

Regards, and go for it!

Hello, I hope this helps,

My Dr. thought I had a bicorniute uterus also. I do have pcos. I am on glucophage for that. It helps with the insulin. As for the uterus. I just had a d and c. I don't have it , but if I did he said it depends on the indentation(they call it a septum) they could go in and trim it. It means its shaped like a heart and its hard for the baby to implant, therefore it is a miscarriage before you knew you were pg. Once they trim the indent at the top (if you picture a heart) its easier for the baby to implant. because our uterus is mormally shaped like an upside down pear. hope this helps. GOOD LUCK

Thanks lory rae. I had first started with Glucophage too, but had terrible side effect so the Dr stopped. I was on Actos for 4 months and after my recent lab work I was told my liver functioning is not very good. So Dr stopped that. Right now I am on Glucophage 3 times a week if I can tolerate. Dr recommended to do the test to determine if my tube are ok. I am thinking about that.

Hi!  I have PCOS.  I found out when I was ttc.  I was put on metformin for about 8 months and had 1 dose of clomid before finding out I was pregnant.  I had a healthy baby boy who is now 2.  Since then I tried to get pregnant naturally and succeeded only to lose the baby early in pregnancy.  My doctor suggested I try again but with a low dose of metformin.  I did so and became pregnant but once again lost the baby.  I am now at a point where I have been given the OK to try again as I am on a higher dose but am having a lot of trouble emotionally getting through the losses.

I am on glucophage and prometrium right now.  I truly believe that if it weren't for the the glucophage, I would not have gotten pregnant.  I had a miscarriage in April, a d and c, and now I am pregnant again.  Do you think it is OK for me to still be this medication.  I have wondered if it might cause a miscarriage.

I has a positive pg test. My hcg count is increasing but at a very slow rate. Last Friday Dr saw a sac in the uterus but today no sac. She will do a d&c this Fri. 2 days after I found out I was pg, I started spotting. Dr said it is a miscarriage, then hcg count doubled, so then she said tubal pg. I am confused. Can is be just a fluid build up? I have no pain or bleeding now. I never had pain from the beginning.
