Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome

by Mediteranean Girl, Apr 01, 2005 12:00AM
Anyone of you ladies or someone you know has gotten pregnant even though she has  Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. I'm very worried! i have been trying for a year after my M/C. I monitored my ovulation this month; I haven't gotten a positive one at all even though I’m taking Clomid 100mg.

Any thoughts, any sugg will be appreciated.

I have PCOS and am currently 18 weeks pregnant so it is possible!! :o) I tried clomid and metformin and they didn't work for me. I actually got pregnant on my own while I was on the South Beach Diet. The South Beach Diet gets rid of the insulin resistance that sometimes accompanies PCOS (it accompanied mine) I credit that with this pregnancy... you may want to check into it. Most people do it for weight loss, but even if you have no weight to lose it can be beneficial to women with PCOS...

hang in there. It will happen for you.

i took metformin by itself for about 6 months and nothing... although i ovulated twice in that 6 month period. I then did clomid 50mg for 2 cycles in addition to the metformin and ovulated both times but didn't get pregnant either time... we then decided to give it a rest (we'd been trying for 5 years at that point with one success at 3 1/2 years on our own that ended in miscarriage)and focus on our physical/mental health for a year before trying IVF... so I went on South Beach (I'm overweight and wanted to lose some)but magically I got pregnant the first cycle following starting South Beach... I'd read in the book the way it effects insulin resistance (there is even a story in the book about a girl with PCOS who got pregnant on it) so since it happened so fast for me I'm giving South Beach credit.. although it could have been the stress relief from taking conceiving off my mind too...

Hi I just had to comment on this post.  I have a 10 1/2 yr old son.  We had tried to have another child since he was 1.  I used clomid among other things.  I was diagnosed in Jan of having PCOS.  I was put on Metformin in Jan. I am now 8 weeks pregnant.  I am still taking the metformin and also am taking Prometrium because progesterone levels were low.  Last week I had a heavy implantation bleed.  I stayed a whole day in Emergency room, they did exam and cervix was closed.  The ultrasound showed baby and heart beat.  The bleeding stopped a few days after.  Now, 7 days later I'm have brown spotting.  The ER Dr told me that would happen most likely.  I had severe cramping and back pain.  But nothing now.  I just wanted to share that I have gotten pregnant by treatment of PCOS.  I am overweight and I have lost 40 pounds since August of 2004.  I wish everyone with PCOS luck!!!!

I found out I had PCOS a month before I conceived. I had been trying to get pregnant for months and was told that I would need to go to a fertility specialist. I refused to lose faith and I kept trying. When I went to the doctor and was diagnosed with PCOS it is like a lightbulb turned on.Things I had been struggling with for years like facial hair, irregular periods, severe cramps and bleeding during my menses, I finally had an answer for. I attribute my pregnancy to God's will for my life. Whatever you do, don't lose faith! It can and it will happen! Just be positive!
