Poopie Question

Poopie Question

Is it OK for Ava, who is now 4 months old, go 2 sometimes 3 days without poopieing... she's never actually gone a full 3 days.  From what I've been told, it is normal at this age as her digestive system is adjusting to her needs.  She is still exclusively breastfed, with the occasional juice bottle.  I just hate to see her go so long.  I know it is painful for ME to go that LONG!!

Baby - I know just what you mean!!  No's exactly Ava's age - he hasn't had a good poopie diaper in about three days but he just started rice cereal.  However, I'm diluting it so much w/formula that it has the consistency of soup.  I'd like to know the answer to this question as well.....

This is completely normal for a breastfed baby.  As long as the stool is normal, then nothing to worry about.  My 1 year old is still breastfed, and she has always gone 2-3 days since she was around 3 or 4 months old.  Breastfed babies often have very little waste because their bodies use the breastmilk so well.  She should have regular wet diapers though.

Well, this happened to my youngest also.  But as long as she seemed comfortable and wasn't having hard poop when she'd poop, I didn't worry too much.  She was exclusively breastfed at that age also.  But if the didn't go everyday, when she would go, it was an explosive one.  You know the ones I am talking about....The ones that go all down the back and you just have to go ahead and bathe them??  LOL!!  I would just think how I wished she would go everyday instead of saving up for me :)

If the poop becomes hard or if she is having pain while going, then that would mean constipation, which is very rare in breastfed babies.  But if she ever is constipated, you can put 2 tsp. of DARK Karo (and it has to be the dark) in 2 ounces of luke warm water and that will do the trick.  My old doc taught me that trick and it works beautifully.  It doesn't work in formula though; it should really be put in water.  For some reason, their bodies won't absorb it in the formula....Yeah, I learned that one the hard way.

until 2 months, dd pooped 8 to 10 times/day. from 2 to 4 months, she pooped 4 to 6 times a day. at 4 months she went for a WEEK without pooping. the pediatrician said it was normal for breastfed babies and that as long as she didn't feel uncomfortable, it was fine. basically, since the stools are so soft, they don't feel the urge to poop. she went another stretch of about 5 days, and since then has been going once or twice/day.

Totally normal for breastfed babies. I was wondering how you are doing? I haven't seen you on here in awhile.

Ugh, Ilan's the same way.  He'll be 6 months soon and he NEVER pooped every day.  Not a single day in his life did he poop two days in a row.  The dr said it's normal b/c he's growing and gaining weight perfectly :)

Great!  I sometimes wish for those days of her pooping several times a day... I don't miss soaking her little outfits after blow outs, but I miss the knowing that her cries are NOT related to belly pains.  She passes gas ALOT!

Is it too early for her to start cutting teeth.  I am wondering why in the world she has been having screaming fits atleast once a day.. it's starting to worry me.

GNicole -
We have been moving into out new house and just had the cable, phones, and internet hooked up today.  I thought I would DIE without my internet!  It's my only form of sanity lately... my link to the outside world, and a way to actually USE my brain!
