Positions, number of times, heavy lifting, caffeine, Robitussin, etc.

I see a lot of posts about ways to TTC and also to prevent miscarriage.

I know people who are TTC want tips on how to achieve this, but is there really any scientific evidence that anything really works?

And I also wonder about tips to STAY pregnant.  I know that if your progesterone level is low, that's one thing--but what about lifting kids, having sex, drinking alcohol before finding out you're pregnant, riding horses, coloring your hair, etc.?  I see a lot of lovely women here wonder if they did something to cause a miscarriage, but I know many women who didn't know they are pregnant for a few months do some things you would think would be horrible, but they didn't miscarry.

Also, there are a lot of "oops" pregnancies--people get pregnant while on BC and when they aren't supposed to be ovulating, etc.

Anyway...just wondering if there are scientific studies backing any of this or if it's not more of a matter of it's just either going to happen and work or it's not (unless there is a genetic issue or hormone problem).

I'm asking because I know someone who is TTC (and has been for a long time) and was wondering if there is a site that lists proven things to help conceive and avoid miscarriage.

Having a m/c is your body's way of rejecting a baby that is not viable.  Hard to accept and heartbreaking to the parents but the doctors are very used to this.  I dont think there is anything to avoid one if it is going to happen naturally.  If mom has special issues (heart, blood pressure, etc.) the doctor will tell her what to do to avoid loosing the baby.  Caffeine is just not good for the baby or the mom.

Positions scientific I have not clue but gravity come into account.

Anything you can do not to have one -- if there was all of these women on here would be happy mommies right now but most of us have indured heartbreak.  Junkies have healthy babies and some of us have problems.  Just nature I guess.

cantwait4baby - Very well written explanation!  I agree that as heartbreaking as MC is, our bodies just know when something is wrong.  Good luck to all of the TTCers out there! Baby dust!

Thank you for the replies!  I agree with you.  I wish there were something I could pass along to my friend, but I do think that our bodies do what they need to do for the most part.
