Possibility of twins

Hello, I actually posted for the first time last month when I thought I might be pregnant though I wasn't; just wishful feelings I guess. But I do have yet another question. I am 41 - are the chances of our having twins as high as I am hearing or is that an ol wives tale?

Nope, not an old wives tale. I just found out today I'm having twins, I'm 38. I've tried to research some since I've been home from my ultrasound about twins. Everything I have read says that your chances increase after age 35, why? I'm still learning that! But anyways, good luck to you! Oh I looked up twins on ask.com and found a ton of stuff:)

i read your recent post about finding out you were haveing twins and in it you said that you kind of had some idea b4hand.  i just went thru ivf and i'm 6 weeks prego... finally!!!  i go for my u/s next monday to see the heartbeat (fingers crossed!!).  we will also find out at that time if theres more than one.  i don't think so b/c i don't have any abnormal signs at all.  this is my second pregnancy, i have a 2 year old little girl at home.  in fact, i don't even feel that preggo except for sore boobs and a little tired but not that bad.  my hcg level was pretty typical for one baby only but they say you can never tell w/levels alone.  so, i was wondering how you knew.  did you have any wierd signs?  have you ever been pregnant b4?  did you feel differently this time??  i would LOVE to have twins so i'm really anxious to find out on monday.  any help you can give will be greatly appreciated!

Hi, I just settled down after work. We are only trying to conceive now and someone mentioned that the chance of twins increases with age. Congrats again on your twins!!

Well, the feeling I had i would say was just  a feeling, no different signs of pregnancy. In fact I had hcg levels drawn on Oct 6 and they were 224, dr said that if I wasn't sure of pregnancy I could check them again in a few days. I went back in 4 days and they were 1400. I have to say though that I have had less pregnancy symptoms with this one than with my other 2 kids. (9 and 3) I did have hcg levels drawn again on Oct 25 and they were 48000. I am 9 weeks so far. The ultrasound tech said that was a flag for here when she read that my hcg was that high. Thank God for the lack of symptoms though I don't know if I could handle that too! When do you go to the dr to find out? Keep me posted! Good luck:)

that's unbelievable that you just had a "feeling" you were haveing twins and you were right given you had less pregancy symptoms than usual!!!  woman's intuition, right!?!?!?!  that's great.... congrats again!  my hcg level went from 225 to 2709 five days later.  more than doubled but nothing to really make me think it's twins but the nurses always say you can't go by the levels.  i haven't had all that many symptons w/this pregnancy either, i've been kinda worried yet hoping for twins at the same time!  really, i just want another baby and will be beyond THRILLED if everything is okay at my u/s.  i go on monday the 13th to check for the u/s and i'm praying we see the heartbeat!!!  ughh, the waiting game is not fun.  i'll keep you posted....

Sorry for not responding sooner, things have been a blur! They can't tell if they are identical until birth, I think. There is so much info to read! I go back to my drs on the 21st, so I'm hoping for more answers then. Are you pregnant? Twins?

When I had twins, my beta hCG count was really high for the date.  This is no guarantee, but it happened to be true in my case.  Also, I got a positive on an hpt very early.

I had numbers that looked like twins - but it was only one
and a few weeks ago my friend had numbers that looked like one and it was twins


they can tell for sure if they are NOT identical if they are in seperate sacs.  (so you can rule out easily that way)
