Possible Trophoblastic Disease

Possible Trophoblastic Disease

02/27 I had an ultrasound and was told that I had a "sac", but no baby - was told it was blighted ovum.  My HCG level was 5700.  03/07 had a D&C - one day shy of being 15 weeks pregnant. I bled for 3 weeks. 03/15 doctor called and told me I had to be tested for trophoblastic disease because they were "unable to rule it out".  I took a home pregnancy test just to see if I still had HCG hormone on 03/28 - it was pink.

What does this mean? What does "unable to rule it out mean"?  Was my HCG level normal for being 14 weeks pregnant?  How long should it take my hormones to disappear at that level?  I'm still feeling very "hormonal" - how long will it take that to go away?

There is a lot of info missing from your post, but it would seem as though the gist of it is this:

At the time of the D&C, tissue from the products of conception were examined (as they nearly always are) and found to have some concerning features for gestational trophoblastic disease, but it would seem that they couldn't make a clear diagnosis.  So it seems your doctor is recommending furthur testing.

Gestational trophoblastic disease can be characterized by your body continuing to produce HCG in inappropriate ways, so it is common to follow HCG levels to monitor what is going on.  There will no doubt be some other testing done.

You can do a Google search for gestational trophoblastic disease and get some more info, but there is no substitute for the advice and care from your OWN doctor.

Good luck to you..let us know what you find out.
