Possible ear infection

by yelloweskimo, Nov 05, 2009 05:23PM
Hello everyone,
My 9 month old daughter has a doctor's appointment today but I would like to hear some thoughts. I am sure she has an ear infection, she has had a cold for the last few days but has been sleeping ok. Then last night she woke up every 20 minutes screaming, she was ok when she had her pacifier but as soon as that came out she was in pain again. She felt really hot too. She finally settled in our room and slept ok but was quite restless in her sleep. Today she seems ok, a little grumpy but doesn't seem to be in pain at all. She did throw up this morning too, and she rarely throws up. These signs tell me that it's an ear infection, but maybe I'm wrong and it's something else. I know a lot of mums out there have had their poor little one deal with an ear infection so I would just like to hear whether I am on the right track. Thanks for your help!

I can't see any drainage, but I have heard that not all infections have this - is that true? Or do all infections have drainage?

No not all infection have drainage.  My son just had his first ear infection and he had fever plus difficult sleeping.  I'm a little hesitant because of the vomiting you mentioned.  Also, his ear hurt if I touched it.  He had a cycle of antibiotic and is now feeling good again.  The doc will be able to see if her ear drum is inflamed.

Hello,
So it was an ear infection. Luckily we had it seen to early and the antibiotics kicked in really quickly. She only had 2 bad nights sleep (the night before the antibiotics and the first night on them) and then she was back to normal, still on antibiotics obviously but she isn't in any pain. It's just awful having them in so much pain!! Thank you all for your help!

Good! Glad to hear your daughter is doing much better! My son had the follow up today with the ped after the cycle of antibiotics, to check that the infection had cleared up just fine.  Everything was okay.  He was given Augmentin for 10 days and reacted really well to it.
