Possible miscarriage?

Possible miscarriage?

I just went for my first ultrasound today. The doctor found the gestational sac and yolk and was fairly sure she also found the fetal pole, however there was no heartbeat visible. She said she is fairly sure I am going to miscarry, but scheduled me for another ultrasound next week. I have had some cramping but nothing severe and now I'm extremely worried. Is this unusual? Is the doctor trying to prepare me for the worst or is a miscarriage the most likely outcome. Any help would be appreciated.

Do you know how far along you are? Sometimes very early on in pregnancy its just that its too early to visibly see the HB on ultrasound. So far, i would say, try not to worry so much. Seeing a sac, yolk and fetal pole is a good sign!

Based on my LMP I am exactly 6 weeks today. Thanks for the encouragement though... I was surprised that she was so convinced I would miscarry.

6 weeks, hmmm! I would say still could be too early to see HB! Sometimes they dont see a HB until 7ish weeks. I know its easier said then done, but just try and relax and occupy yourself until your next scan. Ive read so many posts of women worrying bcoz a HB wasnt detected so early, but later found a healthy HB!

Would your doctors surgery monitor your bloods and check the relevant hormones are increasing?!

I'm still hoping that everything's fine and that it was just too early or too hard to detect. They did draw blood, but have not scheduled anything else until I have another ultrasound. Like I said this doctor was fairly certain I would miscarry and that she recommended the ultrasound next week as a precaution. The nurse was slightly more optimistic and said it was still early and could go either way. This is my first pregnancy so I have no idea what is normal or what to expect.

I think some doctors just like to make the couple aware that its a possibility. But i feel sometimes its not needed. Like u said, the nurse was optimistic. If you google no HB detected at 6week US, you'll be suprised how many women dont see one up until around 7.

Im sure all is fine! :) Let us know how u get on next week!!
