I totally know what you are talking about! I have extremely thick hair anyway, but post pardum hair loss still freaks me out. My hairdresser told me that it can happen anytime there are events that cause stress and that it is normal. What happens is during times of stress and pregnancy, hormones effect the amount of hair you lose. We all normally lose about 100 hairs a day, but when we are pg, we don't lose hair at that rate, thus giving us the appearance of thick and lustrious hair. After we have our bundles of joy, the hormones decrease and we start to lose all that hair. It will stop, though the time frame varies.

With my first son, it went on for months. With Tristan, he just turned 4 months old and my hair is everywhere. Throughout the house, clogs the drain in the shower and I am constantly picking it off of my kids.

It will stop, you won't go bald, and it is totally normal.

I was just getting my hair done the other day and my hair dresser told me that if I plan on breast feeding this baby that I will definitely see a more significant hair loss than if I don't breast feed.  I have a 10 yr. old son and remember losing hair by the handful while nursing him.  I think the stress that your body goes through while nursing is the reason for the extra hair loss.

I think it has something to do with breastfeeding as well. When I had my first child, as soon as he turned to months my hair began shedding like hell. I was soooo freaked out. It shed for 3 months straight and finally stopped. It took about a year for it to grow back, but it never regained its natural thickness. And now with the recent birth of my daughter, what I dreaded would happen, has happened. I hate going through this. But I truly believe that when you nurse exclusively you loose more hair. Our bundle of joys held us captive in our own bodies, and now they have taken our hair! But just know that it is just hair, and it will grow back eventually.
