Post-partum period after full-term stillbirth

Post-partum period after full-term stillbirth

My son was born still on May 26, 2005, at 39.5 weeks after
a normal pregnancy and delivery (he aspirated amniotic fluid during labor). We've gotten the green light from my OB to try again after a few normal cycles, and we've been reassured that this is unlikely to happen to us again.

I am now 10 weeks postpartum and have had no sign of my period or ovulation yet. I was told by the doctor who discharged me from the hospital that my period would return in 4-6 weeks, which seemed early; at my 6-week checkup, my OB told me not to worry until 12 weeks had passed with no period, which seems sort of late.

Is it normal not to have ovulated or gotten a period at this point?  I'm worried that this means my cycles will take a very long time to return to normal. Thanks.

Although I don't have much advice for you other than to consult your Dr, I just wanted to reply to tell you how very sorry I am for your loss. You seem very strong-hold on to that, and I will keep you in prayer.
Perhaps stress could be affecting your cycles? You have been through a terribly traumatic event....

First off, I am so sorry for you loss.  I dont know what else to say.  May God be with you and your family.
I had a baby on April 11, 2005 and my period didnt return until 14 weeks post pardum and I only breast fed for 2 weeks.  I called the doctor (at 13 weeks pp) and the nurse told me to take a pregnancy test and if it was negative that she would prescribe me progesterone.  I took that and my period started about 5 days after I started taking it.  It may have not started still if I had not had the jumpstart.  Have you and your husband had unprotected sex since the birth?  I dont know if you know that some women are VERY fertile after giving birth.  I know women who go in for their 6 week pp check up and are already preggo again.  Have you taken a pregnancy test?

I haven't taken a pregnancy test, but we've only had intercourse once since the birth, and that was protected.

(Thank you for the kind words - we're getting by.)

I cant imagine that!!
I have had a miscarriage and know the pain you feel going through it.
I send my heartfelt sympathy to you and your family
It can be delayed from your grief, stress, and of course the physical part of it all also..
Your doctor said 12 weeks and you are at 10 I would wait til then and if nothing make an appointment maybe they can give you something to get you back to normal so you can try again..
Your in my thoughts...

I have no idea what's normal.  I can't remember when I had my first post partum period.  But, I had to post a comment to just express my deepest sympathy.  I will pray for you.  It's hard to even imagine what you must be feeling.  I hope that your body is back to normal soon so that you can try again.

I'm sorry I meant to get in on the thread about TERMS. I didn't mean to steal this one.

campbetc, I'm so sorry for your loss, sorry to but in this thread with photos of my daughter, I didn't mean to post it here. I had my daughter April 5th and I have not had a period yet, but I'm breastfeeding so that is probably why. I think you should talk with your doctor about your concerns. I had a miscarriage before I had my duaghter and my cycles were all weird  and irregular after that, so I took Clomid to help get pregnant. It worked the first try. Again, I'm so sorry for your loss.

Hi! I'm stealing this thread to post a link to Hannah's photos from Sears, she is 4 months old now. The link is:

Also, I've been on this site for about a year and a half, and I always thought AF stood for Aunt Flow, and the DH was Dear Husband. It all means the same thing, but anyone else thinking that this is what they stood for or am I losing my mind.

Hello,
My name is Holly. I am 20 years old. I am planning on going off the pill (i have been on it for 3 years now) in November. I hope to get pregnant right away so I can give the news to my in-laws and my parents as an xmas gift. Do people usually have problems conceiving the first few months they go off the pill? How does it work? I also want to lose weight before I have a baby. As it is I am not comfortable in my skin. If anyone has suggestions or would like to chat, please email me at butterfly_baybee2005***@**** I will respond to everyone!
Also, will you only conceive on certain days of the month? I can use as much information as I can

I am sorry for your loss. I also lost a baby in Feb' 2008, full term. I am a Type 1 diabetic, we lost the baby to placental deterioration, so I can honestly say I understand how you feel. My husband and I have started trying again....my cycles are very irregular. I bled 4 weeks after the birth... then got my period again 2 1/2 weeks later. Now I average 37 days between periods, where before the pregnancy I had a normal 28 day cycle. I have now gone 47 days without a period....and multiple negative pregnancy tests! Not sure....calling my doctor tomorrow. You are in my thoughts and prayers.....wishing you a healthy baby....

I had a miscarriage in March of 2008 then three month later I was pregnant again. My little girl was born still December 25, 2008 at 7 months pregnant, due to a blood clot in the umbilical cord. I had pp bleeding for about 4-5 weeks and then I started taking my BC.  Im in my second week of the second pack of pills and I still havent had a period.  I dont know whats going on, but Im worried.  I wouldnt mind being pregnant again, but I think that this is too soon for us. My prayers are with you, I know your loss and for me there is no greater loss than the loss of your child.

This is a difficult time for you, I'm sure. I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your baby! If you don't mind sharing with us...What did you name him?

I gave birth 14 weeks ago, September 10 and just yesterday started my first period after my initial 4 weeks PP bleeding. My doc ran blood tests to see why it was so late and all came back fine. If you haven't gotten it by 1 weeks you might consider asking for a few blood tests. have him check your thyroid and your prolactin levels and I'm guessing he'd probably do a preg test too, just to be sure.

4 years ago I lost one of my twins during the second trimester. My greatest wish is that I could have held my little one just once and given the baby a real name. Since I miscarried, that was not an option. I only got to see the baby on the utrasound screen one time. I don't even know if it was a boy or girl. All I know is that my 4 year old daughter has a twin sibling that I won't get to meet until I get to heaven. I may not understand exactly what you are going through but I can certainly feel your pain.

I hope your cycles return and regulate soon. Good luck with everything.

Hello im in the same boat as yourself. Its been 5weeks 4 days since the birth of my beautifull sienna and no period yet. She was 33 weeks and died due to a massive fetalmaternal haemmorage. (very rare) I miss her every secong and it breaks my heart to know she would be born next week if this terrible thing hadnt happened to her.

waiting for my period is horrible, i just want my body to return back to some sort of normality. i took a preg test just incase and that was negative. From what i have read it can come back any time between 4 and 12 weeks...

Its so sad that we are all in this situation we should be enjoying becomming mothers. hope everyone is ok and somehow we will get through this xxx lyds
