Pregnancy After A C-Section

Pregnancy After A C-Section

I am not asking for myself, I dont want any more kids for a LONG time if EVER...but a friend of mine wanted to know how long after a c-section it is safe to be pregnant again. I have heard some doctors say 6 weeks, while others have said a year to 18 months. What have your doctors said? Has anyone gotten pregnant shortly after a c-section and had a sucessful pregnancy???

I really wonder what the differing opinion is on this topic! Some doctors say its okay right away, while others say to wait a long time! That is a BIG difference!!! You would think there would be an agreed upon time period. I know you need to give your body time to recooperate, but the gap in opinion is HUGE!!!!

Common sense tells you that it would be wise to give that uterine scar (and your body) a fairly long time to recouperate and strengthen.  Very few would agree that it is wise to get pregnant right away.  Probably most would say at least 6 months, or better-a year.

Ive heard its better to waid a year to 18 months, that gives you and your incision time to heal.  Ive heard if you get pregnant right after a csection that your incision can bust open, now I dont know how true that is, just something Ive "heard".

Yeah I was told six months to a year before getting pregnant so there is at least a year between births.

I asked my doctor about this at my last appointment, and he said I should wait 6 months before TTC again.

My doctor told me 6-12 months before we get pregnant again but not more than 5 years.  Which is difficult to follow because it could take another 5 years to get pregnant again with another baby, I'd hate to waste time from my clearance to be intimate (god when can that happen?!) and this time frame.  My doctor is a high risk OBGYN and said that the risk of rupturing the uterus before this time raises greatly.

I had 2 c-sections 18 months apart.  The 1st one went very well and I was up and walking the next day.  Now the 2nd one was bad, I just noticed that the cramping and recovery was slightly harder.

Why not more than 5 years?  I am TTC and it's been 7 years since my last c-section.  What is the repercussions from waiting so long.
