Pregnancy Question

Ok this is abut my sister.  She is Having a c-section Jan. 30th.  Her Dr.  Sent her to a specialist because the baby was measuring out REALLY small for how many weeks he is.  They thought he possibly was a "Little Person".  Well the ultra sound tech said she didn't think so.  He just looked really small.  He is about 4 1/2 lbs and due in 3 weeks.  He is 15 inches long.  Has anyone else had a issue like this?  My sister is 5' her husband is almost 6' (but small frame) both sides of grandparents are small....so I just wanted your guys opinion.  You are always so helpful:-)

Love yah

I'm not sure about the baby's size but my first OB said my daughter was really small at about 36 weeks, she said she was less than 4 1/2 lbs, turned out she wasn't that small, she was 20 inches long and 6lbs 4oz so sometimes they don't measure right, I would suggest she asks for another U/S with a different tech

Have the doctors checked how your placenta is functioning? My MIL had the same problem with my husband when she was pregnant. She was mesuring small for her dates and had to be induced but the doctor back then was really rude and said this baby will be premmie and need special care. He didn't care than my MIL was spot on with her dates. Her baby was born full term and 4 and a half pounds and when she delivered the placents it was all but dried up. She had been suffering from an insufficient placenta and he was not getting enough nutrient in the last 6 weeks. He was ok just needed a little more help to start with but all is fine. I would just ask if this could be a cause if you are really worried.

By a "little person",  are you saying they think she's having a child with dwarfism?  That doesn't show up until after birth, does it?  Aren't children with dwarfism born average size,  but fail to grow?

I would be concerned about the placenta too if she's truly that small.  I have a friend though,  like another poster,  who was diagnosed with a baby that was terribly small,  they took the baby by c-section early because they were actually afraid of fetal death,  and when they saw her,  she was in fact an average size.  Who knows.  She had gone to a really good sonograher,  with great equipment,  and who knows why they couldn't measure her right.

Yes its true that sonographers can be so wrong about size. I went for a scan at 39 weeks because it was suspected that my baby was breech (she's 8 now). They estimated her size at 6lbs 11oz....she was born 5 days later by c/section weighing 8lbs 3oz.
