Pregnancy and Pain Medication

by ct7674, Mar 19, 2003 12:00AM
What are the dangers of taking vicodin during pregnancy?  I am currently 16 weeks pregnant and I have extreme back and leg pain and tylenol does not help?

Anything you take in will also go to the baby.  I think Vicodin is fairly safe in pregnancy, but a lot depends on how much you are taking and how often. If you take it regularly and all thru the preg, your baby will be born with vicodin withdrawals.  It isn't easy for adults to withdraw, why would you want that to happen to a baby?

What is your medical diagnosis that your pain can only be controlled with this highly addictive medication?  You must make an appt. with your OB to discuss your reliance on Vicodin for pain control.  Don't just casually  mention it during your OB visit.  Make an appt. specifically to discuss pain control.

IF your doc is competent, he/she will refer you to a pain clinic to help you.

You do not need to live in such pain that you have to rely on addictive medications in your day to day life.
