Prenatal Pilates?

I have been told this is an excellent form of staying in shape during your pregnancy, and just for overall stretching. Is there any particular time during your pregnancy that you should start this?

I have been told to start exercising right away, but I don't want to overdue it. At the time time, I have always worked out so I am starting to want to get back to the gym and doing weights, and even walking on the treadmill. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

I am 13w and just now getting to where I feel ok to do some type of exercise.....I have considered this too. My grandmother said that 30+ years ago a friend of hers did pilates during all 4 of her pregnancies and now at sixty-something years old she has the flattest stomach of anyone she knows......maybe this person just has good genes but it's nice to think that something as low impact as pilates can help that much! I think it gives us all hope as our bellies start expanding! This is my plan of attack.....keep me posted as to how you do with it!

How far along are you?  If you are under 12 weeks it is important to regulate your heart rate and body temp.  Overheating can lead to birth defects (or so they believe).  If you were very fit when you got pregnant, the rule doesn't necessarily apply.

I would look for a pilates instructor who has specialized training to work with pregnant women.

I agree with anxiousmommytobe...I personally did Pilates throughout my pregnancy and gained only 20 lbs so it is a great way to stay in shape while preggo but you need to make sure that you're doing it with an instructor who's knowledgeable in working with pregnant women.  There are some exercises that you shouldn't be doing while preggo (like the exercises on your stomach or raising your hips above your shoulders, etc..)  My baby's already 10 weeks and I'm yet to go back to doing Pilates but I stand by it 100%, it's great stuff :)  I gotta go back myself!!! So lazy :)
