by want_to_be_a_father, Jul 29, 2006 12:00AM
We are 6w 2d and was wondering if it was safe for my wife to continue using her Proactive face stuff???

This is on our list of questions for our DR. at our first u/s on Monday, but wanted to know just incase she should stop using it now....

Thanks,

I looked on the proactive website for you and this is wat I found:

Is Proactiv Solution safe to use while pregnant?
We recommend that you consult your physician before using any medication during pregnancy or while nursing.
www.proactive.com - under FAQ and medical conditions.

isn't it benzoyl peroxide based? my doctor said benzoyl peroxide was ok (stay away from salicylic acid products).  I don't like to use it though.  I read on some drug sites, that it isn't the safest drug to use.  For example:
from safefetus.com

>>Benzoyl peroxide: Class C drug:
Studies on animals show adverse effect and toxicity on fetus.
No adequate and well controlled studies done on pregnant women.
Drugs should be given only if the potential benefit outweighs the potential risk to the fetus.>>

When I have really bad breakouts, I will use it sparingly.

her face will probably clear up now that she is pregnant.  Some people who don't have adult acne get it during pregnancy and those of us who have adult acne find it clearing up during pregnancy.  Let us know what the your dr. thinks about it on Monday.

I think that it's better to be safe than sorry. The first trimester is especially critical in the baby's formation. If I were your wife, even with a doctor's approval to continue using it, I would wait until 14 weeks or later to start using it again.

i don't think it will do her anything but if you are really concerned about it i think she can go a couple of days without and see what the doctor says!

I did not..... we have been trying for 5 years and finally went through IVF. We are now at 6w 2d and go for our first u/s on Monday. I can not wait to find out how many we are going to have as we transfered three during our IVF.....
