Probably a stupid question, but can a miscarriage be replaced?

by NeeNaz, May 15, 2007 12:00AM
Okay, this is probably a stupid question.. but is it possible that around the same time that a miscarriage was about to happen, that another fertilization took place? (meaning the fetal pole "came out", but that something else took it's place and started to grow?)

My mom conceived me immediately after a miscarriage. so it is possible to have a miscarriage and conceive again immediately.

I mean without knowing the difference... with not real blood... but some tissue coming out... having it feel like the pregnancy is still going on.

A teacher I work with had a m/c early on and then continued to feel pregnant (morning sickness, no period, etc.)  It turned out she was pregnant with twins. When she m/c they had assumed she was carrying only one baby when in fact one survived and one m/c.  This was about 15 years ago before u/s were so high tech.  I don't know if that could happen today or not.

pretty sure it's not possible. when you are pregnant the body secretes hcg. that stifles your body from releasing more egss. without a new egg being released you would not be able to fertilize. and hcg does not go down right away with a misscarriage. it can take days to weeks and even over a month. thats why so many women have pregnancy symptoms and don't know they have misscarried yet until an ultrasound or keep having symptoms after a misscarriage.
