Problem with insurance companies

I am having my 2nd miscarriage and I wanted to know if I could get some tests run to understand why this is happening to me.  My doctor said that my particular insurance company would probably not accept me going to a infertility doctor until a 3rd miscarriage.  Is that not the most ridiculous thing ever?  He was telling me about all the tests they can run and now I can't get those!  It is so stupid how insurance companies run everything without putting their patients first.  Sorry to rant, I just would like to try to fix a problem (if there is one) before I feel this emotional and physical pain again.

Sorry you're going through this...Insurance companies, all they care about is their pocket and the $$$.  It's the sad truth :(  I hope you'll get your answers soon.

my dh (a pharmacist) is so disgusted with the way insurance companies work that he is more than happy to pay for me to go to a doctor that does not accept any insurance. He understands why many doctors no longer take insurance (insurance companies often don't pay nearly what they should). in the pharmacy, the amount insurance companies pay for the drugs is often less than the cost for the pharmacy! i personally do not understand how insurance works, but i was wondering if it would be possible to see a fertility specialist and then submit it as an out-of-network doctor visit? i am very fortunate- while my dr office does not take insurance, they submit the out-of-network requests to the company for us. it has cost us a bit more out of pocket (but surprisingly not as much as i anticipated), but the cost is worth seeing such a highly-qualified doctor that i am comfortable with. i suggest you call your insurance company and find out what is cvoered and at what rates.
good luck.

I had to deal with the same thing, I had my 2nd MC Feb 2006, and wanted some testing and the doc said they wouldn't be able to get it covered until after the third, I thought why do they make you go through three, I guess they like us to be at the bottom of our emotions.  Anyways, I ended up getting pregnant again in July 2006, and I am now 30 weeks due April 18th.  So maybe that will be your case, and you won't need all that testing anyways. Good luck

Hi Sammie, i work for an insurance company. Have you tried calling member services to inquire on your infertility benefits? I can tell you that some states have mandates that certain things be covered. It also depends on which state your plan is contracted out of too. I see more and more plans with infertility benefits now. Try calling yourself and ask what your coverage is for infertility. Good luck!

....sorry, I forgot to add, that these are the benefits that your employer chooses, so you may also want to  inquire with your HR dept!!
