Progesterone Levels have dropped at 6 weeks

Progesterone Levels have dropped at 6 weeks

On the 16th of June my progesterone level was normal at 21mg.  I had slight bleeding on the 21st, had an exam and everything seemed fine for 5 weeks 3days.  I went back on the 23rd for more blood tests and I was contacted with the results today; my progesterone has dropped slightly to 20.8mg.  The doctor has suggested I use progesterone suppositories to help with the development.  I am now 6 weeks, 1 day and wondering if the pregnancy has any chance of making it to full term now that my progesterone has already fallen, and may have fallen more since the tests were done last Friday.  Isn't the progesterone level supposed to double or even triple throughout the pregnancy?  I have had two miscarriages before this pregnancy and I am a nervous about everything.  If anyone has any knowledge of this, please respond.  Thanks....

good luck.

Thanks for replying.  I had read other stories of people who have taken progesterone through their first 12 weeks after their levels had dropped.  After they were put on the progesterone, they are okay and most of the pregnancies seem to be carried full time.  At least there is hope.  I know how hard it is going through a miscarriage and not being overly excited about being pregnant again.  Good luck with your pregnancy; I hope all goes well for you.

Flower, No, I don't think so.  hCG levels would be much higher than that, and this is the right range for progesterone.  My doc tested me for estrogen, progesterone and hCG regularly, but stopped the hCG after a point and just kept monitoring the estrogen and progesterone to keep tabs on how things were progressing.

Sihatch, I'd definitely take the supplements because they can't hurt anything, but don't panic at those numbers, the can vary even within the same day and still be OK.  Good luck, and I'll be hoping it was just a minor scare.  Annie

Hello,

Just to update you and give you info that may put your mind at ease.  When my reg. obgyn called with the news of the 14 progesterone level, I got a little uneasy.  So since I couldnt get an appt with him til Thurs, I went back to my specialist who saw me right away this am.  I got a sono- all ok, thankfully!  BUT he said that 15 is the avg and I am only slightly below.  he wouldnt push the meds unless 10 or under.  so basically my regular OBGYN is pretty cautious and there is nothing for me to worry about- or for YOU to worry about.
good luck!

I am soooo glad to hear that your appointment went well.  It's also good to hear that there is hope, at least with the progesterone level.  I pray that everything continues to go well throughout your pregnancy.  And thanks for replying; reading others thoughts and experiences helps ease the mind.  :*)
