Progesterone Question

by praying hard, Oct 03, 2006 12:00AM
This past month I took Clomid (50 mg).  My progesterone level was 78 on day 21 of my cycle.  I've just started fertility treatment and my doctor doesn't really explain things very well, so I'm hoping you can help.  Does a high progesterone level just mean that I did ovulate this past month??  How high does it need to be to indicate pregnancy??  I'm just not sure what a high progesterone level means.  Can you help?

Most doctors want to see a level over 10 on a natural cycle, and a level over 15 on a medicated cycle. So, a level of 78 definitely means the clomid worked by inducing ovulation.

So a high progesterone level just means that I ovulated...it doesn't indicate pregnancy at all, right??  Thanks for the info!  I appreciate it so much.

Right. Here's a chart of the different hormones, and what the levels indicate. There's two listings for progesterone- the first is CD3 and the second is for 7DPO. It's probably more info than you need, but good information to know.

hi everyone i'm new to the board. I also have some questions about my progesterone levels. I had it checked on cd 19 they were 57 my dr. said she was almost 100% sure i was pregnant. I went in 2 days later for blood test & it was neg. This was my 2nd round of 50 mg of clomid. Does anyone know why my levels were so high & not pregnant? The nurse said "Maybe it was something that just didn't happen?" So i guess high levels don't always mean your pregnant. Please help!!

Duck 06...I'm so sorry to hear that.  I have a feeling that I am about to go through the same thing.  I don't understand why the number is so high but no pregnancy either!!!

I don't mean to bring you down. I just hate to see someone get there hopes up as I did and then there's that let down. Just maybe if you aren't pregnant that its a good sign that your levels are that high and it will happen next month. Anyway thats how I'm trying to look at it. Please keep in touch. It's nice to hear what others are going through and compare. So many others don't understand or you begin to hate to talk about it because they never know what so say except I'm sorry. Hope to hear from you soon.

Well, I am in the same situation, I have been trying to concive. On my ovulation day I started spotting(brownish),so, I a 6 days later I saw my ob and she ran all kind of tests( I do have annual pap smear and check up, everything was fine except my progosteron level was 22, hcg was >1 ( I am not on any fertility treatment). My ob thinks that I might be pregnant. The spotting was less, almost nothing, but yesterday I had pink spotting. Any Ideas could help. Thank you
