I have luteal phase defect and was told to try the progesterone suppositories. My temp rose 10 days ago (charting) and I started using the progesterone on day 3 after I ovulated. I'm now at day 10 and was wondering how long should I continue using the supp. and how/when can I tell if I got prego? I realize my period will not start since I'm using the progestrone and my temp will remain high due to the prog so how will I know?
Sorry to post over a question but I have some v exciting news!!!!! I have got my Christmas wish early I got a bfp this morning!!!!!! I'm so excited, this is only our 2nd month of trying this time and I am pregnant. I guess I am about 4 weeks along by my lmp. So Katie will have a littleLittle noses decongestant Little tummys brother or sister soon, she will be 18 months when next baby born which is a nice gap. I have doctors appt on Wednesday when I will hopefully be prescribed suppositories as I was with Katie, all my old fearsFears and phobias have come back for now though. This is my fifth pregnancy now and will be (god willing) my 2nd baby. I'm hoping for an early scan to check this baby is ok again and then I think I'll relax if that's possible with a 10 month old!!! Feel like I've had a coat hanger in my mouth all day.
Do you know the approx. date that your period would be due to start? If so, then you can take a hpt on that day. If negative, then try again in a few days. As far as when to stop taking the suppositories, I'm not sure. That's a good question for your doc.
Ahh, yes, I see your dilemma. Your luteal phase should be at least 10 days, so I think you could actually start testing on Day 11 if you really got anxious. Day 14 would be ideal. Then, if it were me and my lack of patience in this arena, I would probably test every other day. You'll have to ask your doc about when to stop the progesterone if you keep getting BFN's.
Thank you and yes, I too am not the most patient person. I'm scared to test and get a negative again and again. The emotional strainStrains especially on progesterone is pretty rough, but I agree. I'll try to hold out as long as possible and then start testing. Wish me luck.
snagglepuss- congrats!! that is awesome!!! Merry Christmas.
to the poster- when I was on progesterone suppositories my doc had me take them for 20 days total and then said if I didn't get a BFP to stop taking them to AF would come. Hope that helps! Baby dust to you ************
I had a sister and a friend who were told they had a luteal phase defect. They both were put on prog supp and they tried for a couple of years to get preg. Both of them at different times finally gave up and went off of the suppositories. BOTH of them the month they stopped doing the prog got pregnant. I have heard that when you are on prog it messes up your mucus and therefore makes it harder to get pregnant. Has anyone else heard this or noticed this to be true. I just thought it was interesting that both of them got preg as soon as they went off the progestrone.
i noticed it was true when I was on clomid, and when I was on prometrium I had sticky white discharge but since I started it after ovulation and had EWCM at ovulation time so I don't think it caused a problem- of course I didn't get pregnant either of those cycles.
IM 5 weeks pregnant.
My Hcg levels are going up normal but my progesterone level was 6.8 last week.My doctor gave progesterone twice a day and so far is now up to 19.
I dont know what to think, because they told that is a good sign but Im not still out of misscarriage.
Is anyone had a similar case that ended with a normal pregnancy?
Thanks
The progesterone should not interfere w/ovulation and getting pregnant because you are to take then 48 hours AFTER ovulation. The sperm has already met w/the egg at that point and is trying to implant. Progesterone is supposed to help thicken your lining to make it easier for implantation.
You should take a HPT the first day after your missed period. The progesterone MAY delay your period so you can stop that first missed day or wait a day or two longer if you feel implantation may have taken place later.
