Progesterone Suppository

by Alex202, Oct 20, 2007 03:36AM
I am taking 100mg of clomid.  Along with clomid I have been prescribed progesterone 50mg suppositories.  I am unsure on how/when to use the suppositories.  According to doctor instructions I am to insert 2 at bedtime the second day after bbt increase.  My question is after this point of increase, do I use the suppositories everyday from here until the end of my cycle? or Do I only use the suppositories the second day after each bbt increases?  I am very confused.  The medication bottle also says if you become pregnant DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE.  How do I know when to stop using the suppositories?

i think it differs from person to person, i have taken progesterone suppositories with all 3 of my successful pregnancies (am currently 25w 1d with my 3rd baby) and i took 200mg twice daily from the moment i knew i was pregnant until the 3 month mark. it helps thicken the lining of the womb, i dont know if it is taken any differently combined with other meds, you should speak to your doctor really.

You will continue to take the suppositories every night.  Then 15-17 days after the bbt rise(or LH surge) you will test for pregnancy.  If it is positive, KEEP TAKING THE PROMETRIUM and call your doctor to have a blood test!!!  If everything is fine you will probably continue to take the suppositories until 8-12 weeks of pregnancy (time varies by doctor).  If the HPT is negative 17 days past ovulation, then you can stop the prometrium and wait for AF to arrive.  Prometrium is safe to take during pregnancy.  It is the synthetic form that is not recommended, the natural form is fine.  That being said many pharmacists just stick that label on the bottle regardless.  I took 200mg /day (one in morning and one in evening) until baby was 10 weeks.  So far everything is fine and I am currently 26 weeks along.
