Progesterone treatments to prevent preterm labor

I am 8 weeks pregnant and had my first prenatal visit today. The dr asked if I would be interested in progesterone treatments to prevent preterm labor. My first pregnancy ended with bed rest, breathine to prevent contractions and my son being born at 32 weeks. So she said I would be a good candidate. Has anyone heard of this? This is new to me and was unsure of whether or not I should go forward. It would be a weekly injection. Thanks!

It's apparently something new that's being studied for preventing preterm labor.

However as with most studies, the results aren't overwhelmingly conclusive that it works.  I guess it boils down to whether you are up to try it.

Is this natural progesterone? if it is go for it! ofcourse do you research, I've done mine and i've heard nothing but good things about it. Good luck!:)

They did a story on this on NPR a couple of weeks back.  Go to www.NPR.org and see if you can find it.  You should know that the FDA has not yet approved progesterone for treating pre-term labor.  I don't always agree with the FDA, but that kind of stuff may be important to you.  Also, so far the sample size of the studies have been very small so it isn't really considered a well-researched topic.

I am 5wk and my blood results just came in and my dr put me on prometrium.  I am pretty nervous as this is my first.  i was reading that this was not good to take while pregnant but the dr told me that it will help prevent m/c.  Does anyone have any advise?
