Protein in Urine

Protein in Urine

I was just wondering, what exactly does it mean when you have protein in your urine? I went this morning to my appt. and the nurse said i had a touch of protein. So whats the consequences of that? Which she said that was nothing to worry about now. Since it was just a bit.

How far are you? Is this your first pg?

Pre-eclampsia is char. by these sym.
swelling
high BP
protein in urine
change in reflexes

Just having one of these sym. does not mean you have pre-ec...

So I would think that was the DRs concern if you had these other sym. later, but sounds like you only had one, so I'd assume they'll just watch for these other sym. during your pg.

I was into 30 something wks when I had all 3 sym. except the chg in reflexes.

The reason I asked about this being your 1st was I know I've heard some people say that if it's your 1stpg women are more likely to have the BP problems along w/ the other sym I listed that can lead to pre-ec eventually.
But since you've already been thru that, I'm not sure b/c from all the bks I've read protein in urine can go along w/ pre.ec
W/DS#1 that was just how mine started out,(kinda a slow process w/ a sm amt of protein so they told me not to worry, then feet were swelling by a few more wks, then the BP was the last thing to go crazy)
Maybe you could call the DR, but if it's like where I live it takes hours or days for them to return a call :(

W/ this one so far Ive not had any of that except a little swelling, nothing like I did w/ the 1st pg. :) Hope you find out soon!!

r u 30 wks now?
Yes, it takes several days for them to call me back. grr! lol
Well i go in frequently due to having gd. so i'll be going in 2 more wks. And considering i'm only 17.6 wks, they'll be able to keep a close watch.

Trace amounts of protein are normal. I had to ask my Dr. too because they told me I had traces of protein. He said it could be just discharge. They only worry about it if the amount keeps increasing. If the #'s keep going up, or are suddenly high, you are at risk of pre-eclampsia.

I wouldnt worry about a little bit of protein I've had it with both of my pregnancies I usually just have a trace which they dont worry about right at the end I had 2 traces one week and none the next midwife said my body is getting tired of pregnancy but if I had any more protein they would of did a major check up.
Good luck.

I'm 28wks&2dy
W/ my first when I got inot the 30's (WKS) everything started happening. Hope to avoid that w/ this one. After this visit I'll go every 2wks so she can keep a close watch on us :)

Glad they are keeping a close watch on you too, here it's like you better go to your app. & ask all you gotta ask b/c if you forget one thing it'll take several days to get your answer. LOL

Do you feel alot more pressure down there w/ this pg? I feel like I'll turn around & there'll be my uterus (it's not everyday but it's getting more often the further along I get)LOL

I am 24w 5 days I had a routine urine test last week which showed minimal traces of protein. My ObG asked to re do the protein test alone, which I did yestertday and the results were "Nil Protein".

I hv discussed it with my doc and what we found out the difference was that..The first time around I did not have a good flow of urine so I hd to take from the beginning of the flow, and second time I had lots of water to make enough urine and supplied the mid flow for thr test, That made the difference.

Always let some go when U R supplying for a test, only take from the mid flow, or else the protein from your discharge (vaginal) will interfere with the results.Think this is the reson for your doc not taking the trace amount seriously if you hv no other symptoms.

makes sense for them to tell you to let some flow then take from the middle flow. gotcha! Well i was just wondering. I wasn't this worried with my 1st pregnancy as i am with this one. Maybe b/c i had soooo many problems the first time. Well thanks everyone for your advice!
