QUESTION PREGNANCY TESTS

by Hoping for babies, Jun 09, 2006 12:00AM
Does anyone know if you take a pregnancy test 4 to 5 days before your period  would it give you a negative result?

I took a pregnancy test today and it was neg.  I 'm suppose to start af the 13th - 15th of this month. My ovulatation time frame was May 25-27th, and we tried.  Would testing this early give me a false reading? Any answers????  Thanks.

Testing too early can give you a false neg.  My af was due on a Thursday and I took a test that morning with fmu and it was neg.  That Sunday got a bfp at 9:30 at night, unfortunately it ended in a m/c (my third).  It is really recommended to wait to test until af is late to get the best result.  Good luck to you and I hope you get your bfp really soon!

Most tests will show neg that early. You should expect a + at the very earliest at 12 dpo, but that's with the more sensitive tests.

I just posted in another thread that I have researched to find out which tests detect the lowest levels of HCG in your system.  SunMark has a plus/minus test that will detect at 25 units and EPT also has a plus/minus test that detects at the same level.  EPT also has one that takes 50 mlU/ml so make sure it is the +/- test that you hold in your urine stream.  I am getting positive results from them and my period isn't due until Tues of next week.  First Response requires a level of 40 mlU/ml HGC, so don't bother with that one, or the digitals, which require 50.  We don't have levels that high until after we miss our period.  They all seem to be claiming that we can get a positive result earlier now, but some just aren't as sensitive as others.  I had to call each to find out which ones were the most likley to give me the result I wanted :)  Good Luck!!!!!!

The average tests report only a 50-60% accuracy if done 4 days before af is due. With each passing day it goes up approximately 10% and most tests report 99.9% accuracy the first day of a missed period.

With this pg, I tested + 11 dpo with a 25 mui test, two days later I tested + with a digital test (some claim they have a 50 mui base, others a 25 mui)

Thank you all for that helpful information. :-)

If you read the box it clearly gives you the % of women who test positive that early. After buying them myself I'm convinced it's yet another money maker for the companies that know how desperate we want to find out. Very few women have enuf detectable Hcg so early. That's why most MD's say to test even as early as one week AFTER the missed period.
