Q's about USC and about vaginal progesterone

by mgi, Mar 19, 2005 12:00AM
HI
I have an IVF related question.  I go for third try this week.  This one is live (last two were frozen)  I am going to USC  Dr. Paulson  (I am a little nervous and would love feedback from someone who's been there)Another question I have is about the progesterone.   Here if you go live you do the shots of progesterone.  But there He says he only does vaginal progesterone - he feels it is just as effective.  (Also he has not prescribed prenatals)  Anyway I am getting so very nervous - would love feedback.  Thanks

I would highly recommend Vita-Natal for prenantal vitamins.  They are the absolute best that you can get.  You can get them from vitaminshoppe.com for the best price.  Just type in the name in the search.  You can type into google.com vitaminshoppe coupons.  Usually you can find a web-site that has coupons for this store.  Usually it is free shipping.  If you compare these vitamins to prescription pre-natals, they are so much better.  The prescription ones are a joke.

I wish you well with all of this.  Progesterone issues is not my specialty.  I'm sure some other women will get back to you on that one.

I am currently using progesterone suppositories as I attempt to conceive again after 2 miscarriages.   The dose she presribed is 50 mg.  I questioned my doctor on suppositories versus oral doses, and she said that it is just as effective or better because it puts the medication closer to the source of right where you need it.  They're a little messy and kind of gross to use, but I have experienced no side effects.  This is my first cycle using them, so I can't speak for any long term use yet.  My period is due tomorrow, so I'm going to wait until tomorrow morning to do a HPT and see if they've helped bring me any success.  Good luck to you.

Also, you need to be taking some kind of prenatals.  If he hasn't prescribed any, at least go get some over the counter ones. I am using the Nature Made brand from Costo.  Make sure it has 800 mg of folic acid in it.  You should ideally be taking them before conception even occurs, I believe.
