Quantitative Blood Test Negative, Could I still be pregnant?

Hi!  I have a question.  I think I am pregnant because I am having similar signs or symptoms to what I experienced with my other two children; however, I have not missed a period yet and my husband has had a vasectomy (but never went back to get checked).  Anyhow, I called my doctor's office and my doctor suggested that i get a quantitative HCG blood test...the test results showed I was not pregnant...the number was 2.  The questions I am posing, could it be possible that I am still pregnant despite other findings?  as stated, i have not missed a period yet and it is just a gut feeling based on my symptoms.

Hi.  Well in my case i had a gut feeling i was pregnant.  I hadnt missed my period either but i was experiencing the early signs.  My last expected period was on jan 11 and i tested negative on a blood test on the 8th and tested positive with a blood test on the 10.  I took a first response early on the 10 before callin a doc and had a faint line.  I was unsure of my results because i thought it should be darker the day before my period. So the 11th i had a quant and it was 72 then i like tripled that saturday.  So u never know.  Now im 7w5d pregnant! when do u expect your perid.  I would say try testing the day before.  But good luck to you.  And hopefully you get the news you want!!bye

I am expecting my period on the 21st of February...I was right with my other two but did not have the blood test until after I was confirmed pregnant with a home pregnancy test...could the hcg levels be on the low side because we tested too early?

yeah they could.  Im not sure how long it takes hcg to get into the blood stream.  So yeah that could be a factor. it's only the 8th so yeah thats too early.  when did u ovulate?  I would try testing the 16, 18 and on the 20. If you are pregnant it should show on one of those days.  But every woman is different ya  know!  Some women dont test positive till like a week after they have missed there period.  What i would do is go to the dollar store and get a lot of preganancy test and just take em when you think u should and get like a first response or a digital one the day before your period is due!LOL  maby you will get a positive!!LOL  Good luck hun!

If you are expecting your period on February 21st, there is no way you would even be pregnant yet. That is 13 days away. You would be ovulating about right now, or it is possible that maybe fertilization could have occurred in the past day or so, but the fertilized egg doesn't implant until 6-10 days after fertilization, and that is when you begin producing hCG in detectable amounts in your blood, and then your urine.

With both my previous pregnancies I had my period and had feelings of pregnancy shortly after and I was right.  In fact, I had had my period January 16th 2005 and knew shortly thereafter (before the end of January) I was pregnant and had taken several pregnancy tests before one showing positive.  I am very in tune with my body, if I am not pregnant than there has got to be explanantion for the things I am experiencing.  I tend to be very logical and less emotionally driven but I do trust my instinct.  My question still remains, can the quantitative blood test be wrong if taken too early?

Well good luck either way. In September I swore I was in tune with my body because 5 days before I expected my period I just knew I was pregnant by how I felt. I was wrong. I was also 8 days late that next month and there was no explanation for it, besides that I thought I was pregnant. The mind is a powerful thing.

I had the same blood test and it was neg.  and then i waited another week and now i am pg!  be patient.  baby dust to you.

i had blood work done nov 18th and which was too early-finally got my BPF on january 4th...God my U/S last friday and the baby is measuring 12 weeks-making me 14 weeks and so I found out when i was 9 weeks-on jan 2nd test was neg. on the 4th pos..Best of luck to you

jenshim is right.  You would ovulating now, not pg.  A level between 0-5 on a quantitative blood test is a negative result.  Anyone on any given day can receive a result between 0 and 5.  Therefore, on the day you had your bloodtest there was no fertilized egg implanted in your uterus.  

Yes, a blood test taken too early will be wrong, obviously.  But if you do end up being pg, it will have only been coincidence that you were having symptoms right now.

I don't think you are pregnant.  Sorry if you want to be.  There are too many factors that say you are not.  Until you miss your period, I would not stress.

I took a blood test on Aug 6, it was negative.  Yesterday and today I had some brown/reddish discharge.  My breast are at times tender.  I don't expect my period till around the 16th.  Could I be experiencing early pregnancy symptoms.  I have two children and all my pregnancies started with my breast being tender.

I had sex on March 6th and my cycle was supposed to begin on the 7th. It was four days late. 2 weeks later I experienced sharp pains in my lower stomach followed by nausia, headaches, fevers, increased appertite, low apetitie, fatigue, breast enlargement, areola darker, erected nipples, swollen nipples. my period was late again in april and came on the 11th. then i developed a dark line going down my stomach. i took several hpts and negative and then took a quantitative blood test and the hcg levels were 2. has anyone ever experienced this and been pregnant?

Hi there,
A quantitate blood test of 2, plus having a period on April 11th, would surely indicate you are not pg.

The thing that I'm dying to know is how you can experience "increased appertite, low apetitie" at the same time.  It sounds like you've copied all of the possible pg symptoms from an article and pasted them in your post.  

Also, the dark line going down your stomach is absolutely not pg related.  You would only get the 'linea nigra' line if you were well into your second trimester of pregnancy.

my girlfriend had her last period aug 5th it is now the end of september and still has not recieved another period. she has had sickness cramps and othe rpregancy signs. she took an at home test and it was a faded positive, but when she went for blood work they said she is not pregnant and her level was at a 2-3 which from my understanding should be a zero if not pregnant. The main worry though is why she has still not got her period (4 weeks late)

I had a tubal ligation just over a year ago (Aug 9, 2007).  I have been experiencing pregnancy symptoms.  I have 3 children and recognize ALL the signs.  Home pregnancy tests say "no" but my body says "yes".  My GYN has given me the order to do Beta Hcg test.  I spot after intercourse, I have the blue veins noticeably running through my chest, arms, hands, legs and feet.  My nails are growing like crazy.  I also have a linea nigra (dark line down the belly) it goes down from the belly button to the pubic line and up from the belly button to my chest.  I have heard over and over again there is a chance of getting pregnant after a tubal ligation.  Actually my GYN told me this could happen as nothing is 100%.  I gag every time I brush my teeth, I have naseau every morning and throughout the day, heartburn when I lay down at night. . . .all the symptoms I had with my other pregnancies.

TTC - lately my cycles have been very irregular. Saw a Fert Spec and went through the gamet of tests; blood, u/s, dye inject, clomid, and last but not least took provera in Aug to jump start cycle. All test results came back normal btw.....Sept cycle was normal but come Oct I get 'nuthin'.....Should have had a cylce on the 10th but I did take a blood test on that day and it as well as the first response test came back neg.  I get the slight nausea (like right now), had some mild cramping that comes and goes, a little more tired than usual but I can't gauge that b-cuz I had no signs other than being tired with my first one. Have a dr's appt on Tues to find the 'missing piece of the puzzle'..... but could I still be pregnant? I'm hopeful.....

Honey I agree with the other ladies, until you atleast miss a period your probably not pg, don't think about it so much because it will only stress you out and that can also be a cause of an irregular period. I have similar problem but I am now 40 days late on my AF and have not had one since october, my blood test came up neg but doc wants to see me again to do test, if I am pregnant I would probably be about 9 weeks. i am always on time, i always start on sat or on mon, i was suppose to start dec 28 (mon) and we are now jan 5 (tue) i took 2 home tests and both came back negative, went to the dr yesterday and took a urine and blood test both came back negative, could i have taken them too early. my dr told me to wait 10 days and she would give me something to start my period but my husband wants me to take another test before they do anything. i'm going to wait til jan 15 and if i haven't started, i will take another test. i hate having to wait. people say this has happened to them and ended up being pregnant, wonder if i am also.

My last period was August 6, 2010. I went to my doctor September 3, 2010 because for the past few days I've been nauseous, gagging, had some heartburn. I went and my temperature was 99.7 which is a few degrees high for me, but my urine test came back negative and so did the HPT that I had taken the day before. Did I test too early? Most tests say you can test up to four days BEFORE your missed period so I don't understand why on the day of my missed period it would come up negative. My period was due the second, but I have yet to get it. I had a blood test done today, September 4, 2010. But if the urine couldn't detect pregnancy wouldn't the blood not be able to detect it as well? Should I take another HPT?

My last monthly period started on May 10, 2011 it lasted for its normal 7 days. It is now June 18,2011 and I havent started my period yet. Ive taken the HPT's and blood test which all have came back negative. I've been having mild cramping but no bleeding. I had a tubal ligation done a little over 4 years ago. I havent had the check ups that a woman suppose to have with making sure that they havent come undone. Ive had my yearly female examinations, but not the one that checks your tubes.  Before and after my tubal ligation my period came on like clock work. But this one is late I dont understand it. Ive had the nosebleeds, nausea and vomiting,light bleeding for one day. Is there anyway possible that i could be pregnant,but its just to early to detect it?
