Question About Meds for Gestational Diabetes

I talked to my mom and she said before taking this pill (can't remember what it's called, but I believe it starts with a "G"), her blood sugars ran at about 170 all the time, then she quit taking it and she says now she runs at about 270 all the time WITH that same pill. My Dr. wants to put me on it, or something like it, but if it'll make my sugars run high ALL the time, even after giving birth, I don't want the dern thing!!! ANyone have any experiences with medication for Gestational Diabetes???

Hi, I had gestational diabetes with both of my children. Are you not able to diet control the diabetes? I was told that the only medicine that was possible to use during pg was insulin injections. My mother is also a diabetic and on glucifage. I asked about this with my first baby and they told me medicine like it were not safe to take. If you have not tried diet control I recommend it. I never had to use insulin. With the change in diet I was able to keep my sugar level down and I had no problems with it after they were born. Hope this helps.
