I had the single pump you could use it manually or electrically. I loved it! I used with 3 kids and purchased it 9 years ago and now my friend is using it with her child. It is about 100.00 now. You can rent pumps also.
When my son was born he was in the hospital for 4 weeks and the hospital gave (temporaraly) a medela pump and I never had any problems with it, it was great. It was the best modle it being a hospital pump, but they said that that brand was great.
I have the Ameda purely yours, this is another hospital grade electric pump very similar in design to Medela pumps, it works brilliantly, because it has double attatchments I wa able to pump 8 - 10 oz in about 10 minutes once my milk came in (at around 5 days post partum). I dealt with MATERNAL EXPRESSIONS on ebay for some replacemant valves and a new adaptor plug and they were very good. (I am not avertising for them by the way, just passing on details that may be useful to you!)
I tried both the Medela Pump in Style and the Ameda and I bought the Ameda. It was recommended by the lactation consultants. It's the only breastpump approved by the FDA because the unique system prevents milk to backup in the tubing. If you are considering the Medela, read this article http://www.artofbreastfeeding.com/cgi-bin/store/AoB2.cgi?CPAGE=Choosing.html. The way it was told to me is that Medela is more popular then Ameda (even though they are more expensive) because they advertise more. Anyway, are you pregnant or did you deliver yet? In my hospital I had to pump and they put the tubing/collecting system on my hospital bill (otherwise 50$) and I rented the pump first to try it out.
Thanks everyone so much! pixi, I did see a picture of the suitcase-sized one and wondered if I would have to use it as a coffee table or what, since it seemed so big. Good to know it was so useful. twins, I'm glad to hear that some other brand besides Medela is out there that is so good. Kelly, thanks also, if I go Medela it will probably be that model. Everyone thank you! It doesn't really sound like I can go wrong.
Oh yes, the hands free bra was very comical! My husband called it the "super sexy bra"...being very sarcastic of course. It was very convenient though...despite how ridiculous I looked. :)
I used the medela double pump. You can push the nurses at the hospital to give you the package of attachments for free and then rent the machine part at a pharmacy. If you call Medela, they will tell you which pharmacy has it. The pump worked great and renting is much cheaper than buying.
hi ive used them all and am a midwife currently nursing my second child and the best most affordable portable pumping action the works the best is the new one they have recently brought out called the medela swing it is the bees knees i would definatly invest in this one goodluck
