Question about Morning Sickness

Question about Morning Sickness

I recently had a m/c and had no warning signs at all until I bled after sex. Still didn't think anything because of the "sensitive cervix irritation" that I was told would cause that. It wasn't until I had an u/s that it showed something was wrong. I am now wondering if there were things I should've suspected were wrong. I never had any morning sickness at all and have been wondering if that should've been a clue that something was wrong. I am hearing different things from different people and was wondering what your experiences have been in that area. My numbers had gone from 27000 to 28700 in 48 hours, but this was simultaneous to an u/s that showed a heartbeat, so at the time I figured the u/s was much more indicative of the progress of the pregnancy than the numbers. Would love some feedback. Thanks.

not having morning sickness isn't something to be concerned about a lot of people don't get it at and have healthy babies. i probably would have been concerned about the numers not doubling though.
have you had a m/c before is that why they checked your #'s a second time?  and how far were you when they did the first hcg check?

This was my first pregnancy and therefore, first m/c. They never checked the numbers before that. I went for an u/s due to falling getting off a bike. I was earlier than they thought and they scheduled me for another u/s 9 days later. I was such a wreck after waiting about 6 days (not knowing if the next u/s would show anything yet) that I asked if I could have my numbers checked. I had them taken the day before and the day after the u/s. When they had the first days number I asked what it was and they said 27000 and that that was high and good. I was 6 wks 2 days. I then had the u/s and saw the heartbeat. The next day had the blood taken again. A week later I went for my checkup and they told me the numbers were good and showed me the paper said the second number was 28700. I said, "I thought they were supposed to double" and she said, "oh not this early". I didn't question her, not having been through this before. But it bugged me deep down inside. So I did some research on the net and found a site that said the u/s is much more predictive of how the pregnancy is going. That made me feel better and I figured if they were concerned with the numbers, all they would've done was send me for an u/s anyway and we would've seen the heartbeat, so I was fine. At 10 weeks I had a m/c.

With DD, I had no symptoms at all throughout my whole pregnancy and she was fine and healthy. So you really can't go on that. I'm sorry about your loss.

unfortunately sometimes there is no warning and nobody can tell why something that seems so normal can go so wrong.
i am sorry for your loss, but don't beat yourself up there is really nothing you could have known or done.

Thanks guys. I guess I have to accept that it happened the way it did, couldn't have known, couldn't have done anything differently, just have to try again. Soon!!!

I know with my first pregnancy I was very sick, it lasted till I had the baby. I got pregnant in July 2003 and wasn't sick at all, never even felt like I could get sick. When I went for my 12 week visit the doctor tried to hear the heartbeat, but she couldn't hear it. She told me not to worry because they can be very hard to hear at that point, so she did an ultrasound and found that there was no heartbeat. The baby had only developed to 8 weeks and I had no idea. I never had any indication what had happened. To make a long story short I am pregnant again, 18 weeks and I have been very sick. I have been so sick that I have lost 10 pounds.
I know they say that every pregnancy is different, but I was like you and wondered that since I wasn't sick with the one I lost if that was some kind of sign. I'll be very paranoid if my DH and I decide to have more and I don't get sick..
So sorry for your loss, best of luck to you...

I wonder if anyone's ever done a study to really know the connection between lack of sickness and m/c, if any. That's the thing about pregnancy, not a definite science. So frustrating at times! Thanks for responding. And congrats on your pg.

I agree,I don't think numbers has every thing to do with the pregnancy....It is totally up to the Man upstairs...I have tried so hard to just put everything in his hands and leave it all up to him... I tell you when I do that I feel much better.... I have a problem taking back all the worries though... What ever is in His will, will be.... No matter what we want.... He does what is best.... Prayers from TBomb....  :o)

I agree everyone is different and so are pregnancies but with all three of my miscarriages I had no morning sickness or tender breasts up until I miscarried but with my daughter and my pregnancy now I had a pretty good case of morning sickness real tired and tender breasts. I know every docter says something different but my doctor with this pregnancy now told me the HCG numbers meant more then what he was going to see int he u/s! I had an ultra sound done at 6weeks 4days and I was real nervous about seeing the heart beat and he told me that my HCG levels(numbers) lookes real good that he wasn't worried....I don't like how different doctors say different things!

Me neither. I wish there was one way they all did it. I am going to insist on having my numbers checked regularly next time. That will tell me all I need to know. I really didn't know anything last time. Live and learn. Have a great weekend everyone!

When I was pregnant with my daughter the doctor would ask me at each visit how I was feeling and when I would say sick he would say good that's a good sign! Not that no morning sickness is a bad sign because some people don't have it. He knew my history of course and I had no symtoms (symptoms) with the first three pregnancies. Everytime I got sick this time around I just kept thinking it's okay because this means everything is going good and it would get me through it. I still worry about miscarry and I am 16weeks right now...it will always be with me. I know this may sound gross but you know how when you are pregnant you produce more mucus well anytime I feel that I am off to the bathroom making sure I am not bleeding! I hate that feeling. Good luck to you and you will have a healthy baby!

Hello, I have two boys and was never sick with either one... I just found out I am pregnant again... I must of gotten sick 9-10 days after conception b/c I had to go to the ER for mild back pain and I was only 2-3w. They could not see anything but a sac. I had another follow up us and still a sac. Well for my third us I was 5w3d and sure enough there was a fetal pole w/heartbeat.. Now my progestrone levels are low and I am now taking a supplement for that... I will get right to the point, I was very sick for this one and it seems like emotional roller coaster.. all is well then they find something for me to worry about... I did read something about morning sickness is linked to how fatty foods you ate before you became prego. I do not know how true this is just read it in a book... One more thing if you tell my Dr you are sick she says good all is well.....Sorry for your loss i know what you are going through... You will become pregnant before you know it.... Ask Dr. for progestrone supplement this helps you maintain the pregnancy... I have heard alot of good outcomes with this.... Hope this helps....

I had a m/c back in Sept of 2003 just like manman.  I went in for an u/s at 12 weeks and there was no heartbeat.  I did have some morning sickness with that baby but not a lot.  I also thought it odd to not have it because with my first pg I had morning sickness within a week of concieving her and I stayed nauseous until she was born.  I got pg again 3 months after my m/c and did have a little more morning sickness than with the one that I lost.  I ended up losing about 9 - 10 pounds with this baby due to it.  I am now almost 35 weeks and all is fine.  It does sound like there could be a connection.   I have always heard if you have a lot of morning sickness it is a sign your hormones are strong and you may have a good pg.  Like some of the other posts said you can't always rely on that though.  Just try to put all your faith in the dear Lord and he is going to do what is right.   Good Luck to you.

Hello. I've had two miscarriages within the course of 8 months. I had no morning sickness at all with either one of those pregnancies.  I have three children and had awful morning with sickness with each of those pregnancies. They say that each pregancy is different, I tend to believe more so that each person is different when it comes to pg symptoms. I personally believe that individually (not in general) that morning sickness is a pretty good indicator of how the pregnancy will go. It was for me anyway.  Sorry for your loss.

hi everyone is diffrent so make sure when you are pregnant again you dont stress out to much if you are not sick.  stress is not good.  With both of my boys i never got sick once the whole pregnancy, and the last pregnancy i was throwing up everyday and had a miscarrage (miscarriage) at 6 weeks, so that just shows how diffrent everyone is. I am now pregnant again feel great and am 17 weeks.
when you get preggo again just pray and try not to worry so much i know it is hard.  good luck.
