Question about baby's hair?

by lfb, Nov 14, 2007 02:11PM
I found the eye color question interesting, but didn't want to change the subject, so I started a new one.  I have a similar question about hair color.  My husband, me and my DS all have blonde hair. In fact, my DS's hair is almost white.  All of our family on both sides has light hair.  We were shocked when our daughter was born with lots of dark hair.  I just knew it would all fall out and come back in blonde.  She has not lost any hair and she is 3 months old.  All of the new hair coming in on the top is really dark, too.  Do you think there is a possiblity that it will stay dark. It is a really pretty color and it looks beautiful with her blue eyes.  I think it would be neat to have a daughter with dark hair.

Are you sure she is your husbands? Just kidding! I have a niece that has 4 daughters and she and her husband and 3 of the girls are all blonde blue eyed, and the oldest has jet black hair and blue eyes. Very pretty girl...who knows where the dark hair came from?

Look back in your family trees...dark hair must be there somewhere :)

I agree...there must be a gene somewhere carrying that trait.  DD was born with black hair.  I mean it was so dark that I wouldn't even consider it brunnette.  When it fell out (finally by 6 months or so), it started coming in as a very light brunette so you never know.

Everyone in my family has dark brown/black hair and brown eyes and I came out with red hair and green eyes. Turns out my great grandfather had my coloring but it didn't manifest itself for a couple generations.

Both my kids were blondes, my husband and I were blondes as children.... Nadezdha has a head full of dark (looks to be dark reddish brown) hair.  Hoping it stays, she'll be my only brunette.

My daughter came out with a head full of black hair too. I had a C-section so when my boyfriend told me she was a girl I said oh poor bald baby and he said no -she has black hair I thought he was kidding.  We cannot for the life of us figure out where it came from.  We are all light but about a month ago her new hair starting coming in.  Tons of it and it is light.  More of a dark blonde.  She is 6 months now.

Genetics are very strange.  I went into the nursery and she was next to this bald, pale baby boy and I said now if I had to pick I would swear he was mine.  The mom was laughing.  And I strolled off with my dark hair dark complected baby girl.  She looks like her dad now - so unfair.  I did all the work.

Good Luck.  PS.  she has brown eyes too.  We both have green.  All the neices and nephews have Blue.
