Question about husband's sperm count

If I've been pregnant once before but m/c, is it safe to say that my husband's sperm count is normal, or at least sufficient?  I don't know if it's one of those things that changes over time.  He takes very good care of himself so health is not an issue.  Also, please feel free to post other questions here.  Thanks!

i've also been pregnant twice (m/c both) - once on own just having dr. monitor cycle and once on meds and iui. since the 2nd m/c (march '06) we've been trying again with meds and iuis, but dhs sperm count kept getting lower. dr. sent him to urologist, but Thank G-d can't find anything wrong. so we're in with the bunch of unexplained infertility. we are going to be moving on to ivf the next cycle b/c dr. feels we don't need to take extra time and work if possible dhs sperm count will keep being low. i would say that more likely that everything's ok with dh's sperm count, but don't rule it out. have him tested too. how did you get pregnant the first time? on own or with help from dr.? good luck.

Hey girl. I also got pregnant and my DH sperm count is low. I m/c at 9wks. So i think yes, you can get pregnant but it is probably not as likely if the sperm count is low. I think I need a little fertility help.

I have gotten pregnant 3 times and my husband has a low sperm count.  If your DH smokes it would be a good idea for him to quit.  The doctor told me that that can severly affect sperm production.

Also a variocele (like a varicose vein in the scrotum) can impact it, and that is easy to check for and easy to fix.  It apparently heats things up too much.  He should have his sperm count done at the fertility clinic so you know for sure.

When there is a sperm count issue - is that when you are only supposed to BD every other day to be sure there is enough?

With a very low sperm count they recommend every three days. But sometimes even that does not work as the count is too low and infertility trtmt is needed.

As you have already been pregnant then you are both obviously ok, the only way anyway can tell you about your husbands fertility is to go to a medical centre and have it tested.
stop worrying, relax and I am sure your BFP will come soon.

Thanks for all your info. I'm trying not to worry but you know how that goes.  We're taking this month off.  I want to put it out of my mind for just a little while.  I'm actually joining weight watchers.  I figure this is as good a time as any to lose those extra pounds.  Plus, it gives me something else to focus on!=)  Thanks again, everyone.  I don't know what I'd do with out this forum.

just wanted to wish you luck with the weight watchers. my sister loves their diet!! she's gone on it after each of her last 2 pregnancies and probably just started again this time round. it really helped her shed those pounds. she loves it cuz you get to eat - just in moderation and it's a healthy diet. she says you can live with it and not feel so deprived of everything you love. (although when she comes visit in NY she's completely off of it - we go from restaurant to restaurant). good luck and hope that this "off" month brings you one month closer to your BFP!!

ok - i have a weird question for you. my husband's sperm count has been getting lower and lower - been doing iuis but now dr. wants to move on to ivf. we're going to be starting within the next few weeks. i've gotten pregnant before - once just monitoring cycle, and once with iui and meds, but both m/c. last night we were driving and my husband said i bet my sperm count got low because of the leather in the car - he says it's always hot on seat. now being that we started trying again in may and it started getting hot then i'm wondering if this really could have anything to do with it? or has he just been reading too much about all this stuff and grabbing at straws. (by the way he's been to urologist, but nothing wrong -Thank G-d). Thanks in advance for all info.

working for an obs and gyna consultant that specialises in fertility, i write endless letters about patients who's husbands have fathered children but have problematic sperm.  Sperm counts can change on monthly basis' depending on climate, situation and even the type of trousers he wears!  SOunds odd I know, but unfortunately true.  The myths about what type of food he eats can result in teh sex of the baby is actually true.  Very slight changes can make a big difference to sperm.

It could possibly be caused by the heat of the seats.  Does he spend a lot of time in the car?  Even sleeping in nightwear could affect his sperm count in the hot months.  I am not an expert, i only go by the advice that my boss gives to others.  I am also based in the UK so could not comment on what American docs think.  I am sure there would be plenty of advice on websites about it though.  Try putting a cover over the seat during the day so it is a bit cooler and in a couple of months ask the doc if he will do another sperm test.

I hope this helps.

Best of luck.
