Question about neg blood test

hello ladies I am so happy to find this site. I am a gestational surrogate and I am 11 days post transfer. I had a blood test on day 10 and it was neg the doctor said to stop meds( ev2 and pregestrone) I am worried that I might still be PG. I have no signs of period. they transfered 2 3 day embies. both perfect in the doc's eyes im concerned is it possible to be pg????thanks for your help.. HPT's are neg also at day 10

I would not stop the meds just yet.  The clinic where I did IVF had not scheduled me for a beta hCG draw until day 15 post transfer, and I was so nervous that I got my regular doc to schedule a draw on day 8 post transfer.  It came back negative, and I then didn't know WHAT to think, since I knew the stupid blood draw was probably too early.  And it turns out, it was.  I was pregs.  Before stopping the meds, if it was me I would wait until at least a good 2 weeks after the transfer before even starting to be convinced by a blood test.  

ps -- there is such a thing as lab error too.  I wouldn't stop taking the meds until two tests done past day 14 post-transfer said negative.

I didnt take my meds last night now Im worried what if I just keep using the progeterone supositories? And I dont know if they will pay for the blood test seeing they told me I was done....im so confused and my IP's are just devestated over the whole thing....I dont know what to do???? I have enought shots to get me though for a short time but how long should it take for me to start my period when I stop the meds im a day late now....your help is so appreciated....I hope im not just holding on to false hope...Thanks

I think day 12 is certainly more reliable than day 10.  Day 14 could be considered "for sure."  Day 10 might have been too early, from my experience.

I would let the people know now that you haven't given up quite yet, you are going to go for the next blood test tomorrow and maybe one more two days later, just to be sure.  There is nothing wrong with telling them that sometimes the tests are too early or sometimes they are wrong for another reason, so you want to be sure.  That's not giving false hope.

Good luck!  Post what happens even if it's negative.

Thanks Annie, I did HPT up till day 9 and they were neg and my blood was early morning day 10 so something tells me it might have been to early.. the agency has not called me back I have an order for blood work tomorrow on day 12 do you think it might still be to early????

Oh yeah my ip's live in Australia and they are grieving right now I havent even talk to them they arent ready to talk.. but they have emailed to say how sorry they are. Im affraid to give her false hope..

I'd keep taking the progesterone suppositories and do what shots you have, and tell the prospective parents that you feel you would like to have another blood test on day 14 because there is a chance this one could have possibly been too early.  Then together they and you can try to prevail on the doc to do another blood test at day 14 post transfer.  I wouldn't let it scare me to miss only one day.  

If the doctor says he is just sure a day-11 test is definitive, consider getting your regular gyno to order you a blood test.  

Incidentally, here is my history after IVF:

Day 8 post transfer -- blood test at my regular gyno.  Negative

Day 11 post transfer -- home pregnancy test (ept brand).  Positive

Day 15 post transfer -- blood test at the fertility clinic.  Positive

It takes about 2 days after implantation for there to be enough hCG in the bloodstream to register on a test.  If your test was day 11 post transfer and the eggs floated around for only a little more time than usual before implanting, and then two more days have to go by for the test to register the hCG, it is possible that the day 11 test was about a day too early.

I am not saying this is in the realm of the highly likely, but I do think a good clinic would have the grace to wait to test until day 14 post transfer, to be really sure.

One other thing you can try is to take a really sensitive home test.  I realize these tests are urine based and are therefore not as sensitive as a blood test, but if you look at my history you will see that really fast (considering that it was a urine test) after my negative blood test, an hpt showed the true story for me.  If you were to luck out and get a positive, you could call that doc with a home test in hand that says positive and be certain he would order another blood test.

Good luck!  I don't think you are being unreasonable, any of you, to ask the doctor to test once more at day 14 before giving up on this round.

Incidentally, mine were 5-day embies, so they could theoretically show up on the tests earlier than yours would.  If it were me, I would NOT give up.

I'm glad to hear it.  I'll be off this forum for about 36 hours starting in one hour, but will be really eager to hear your results either way.  It just seems like there is a chance.  If you had a test at day 10 with three-day embies that was negative, it means about the same thing as my test at day 8 with 5-day embies, and my test turned out to be wrong.  Also, I would definitely drop a line to the people in Australia telling them you are not ready to give up yet because you think the test might have been too early, just because if by some wonderful chance you DO get good news, you don't want to look like you've made this all up or something wierd.  And they deserve to be kept informed on developments at every point, including this one.  Best of luck again.

Annie I called to doc office and they said it was less than 1 onthe blood test...I asked if I could repeat the test today ay day 12 and they said sure so Im going to do that if it is still that low then I will accept it and move on but I have to be sure....

Stiil neg blood on day 12....Ill just do the HPT's till im for sure...
