Question for Tantemilly

by GinGib, Nov 08, 2003 12:00AM
Hi!! I just read that you lost your son at 20 weeks. I am so sorry for you and if it isn't too painful for you to talk about I was wondering if you could tell me why you lost him? What happened? I am 19 wks preg and that is one of my biggest fears.
Thanks for the info and if you can't talk about it I understand.

Of course I don't mind talking about him. I think all of the experiences the ladies have here will help others. At about sixteen weeks, we found out that our son had a giant omphalocele (his liver, intestines, stomach, abdominal contents were outside of his body). We spent 4 weeks so worried over this and many days talking with doctors, genetic counselors and having amnio, ultrasounds and such. The doctors said due to the size, he wasn't doing very well. Well he didn't make it through the next few weeks. And since I was over the 20 week mark for a D&C, he was delivered by labour and delivery. After he was born, the doctors told us that if he had made it to term, he would have had many many surgeries to put him back together properly. And he may not have survived them in his delicate state. He was beautiful though, just like my husband. I miss him tremendously but I also have to say that the chances of having this condition are soooo slim. Most women have very normal pregnancies, and very healthy babies. Are you worried because you've received some test results that aren't so good, or are you just a very concerned soon to be mom? I wish for you to have a wonderful pregnancy, and a very healthy happy baby. Thank-you for asking - yes I am worried about my new pregnancy - extremely worried - but I guess that is part of what makes a good parent!

Hi!! Thanks for the info and I am so sorry for you. I hope this new pregnancy goes well for you. My ultrasound was fine so I am probably worrying for nothing. I had to have progesterone shots and we thought we had lost him more than once and I have had a previous miscarriage so I am just concerned in general. I am now 19 weeks and I feel him and he is a person to me so I can't imagine going through what you did. I am going to pray for you and thanks for the info.

I am sooo happy to hear that your ultrasound results are great. You sound like a wonderful person - relax, get to know your baby, enjoy everything - I can't wait to be able to feel a little one inside me again. I loved that feeling!! Best of luck!!!
