Question to those pregnant by using Clomid

by neparker, Jul 19, 2006 12:00AM
I found out I am indeed pregnant, this has been a long process and was only my 2nd cycle of Clomid.  I'm currently 4 weeks 3 days.

I'm concerned about miscarriage and all that other scary stuff.  I've read that Clomid can actually make a healthy pregnancy turn into a miscarriage.  Does anyone know if that's true.

I haven't ever miscarried and this will be my 3rd pregnancy.  I can't remember any symptoms from those pregnancies, so I guess I'm wanting to hear some positive stories or similar feelings and experiences from those who used Clomid to get a BFP.

I've been feeling bloated lately, and not really cramping like period cramps, just little ones once in a while.  And I've been a lot hotter than normal.  Is all this normal?  I don't know why I would feel fatter than normal either, but I have been.  Like when I sit down to work on my computer, I feel like my stomach is hanging out all over the place.

Also, if you are pregnant or have been pregnant using Clomid and conceived twins or are having twins, what where your symptoms like?  I have twins in the family line, so myself conceiving twins is even higher.

Thanks.

I am currently 15w6d pregnant from using clomid. It took me 3 cycles of 50mg. I had all the same symptoms you mentioned above. Clomid does increase a risk for multiples but only by 8-10%.

I have not heard about clomid causing miscarriages though. It doesn't really make any sense though, why would a dr prescribe clomid and chance the woman having a miscariage when there are other drugs out there that work the same as clomid.

Congratulations and sticky baby dust to you

Take Care

Happy to hear your good news, now all i can say is RELAX!!! chances are higher that everything will be ok and healthy than the opposite so just try to enjoy this pregnancy. i never became pregnant on clomid (but i did on something similiar called letrazole/femara) - really i don't think that clomid could turn a healthy pregnancy into a m/c - i'm not basing that on medical fact or anything, but i would imagine that if that would be the case people would know about it as one of the possible side effects of clomid - a m/c usually (not always, but usually) comes from an abnormal egg or abnormal sperm or both that meet and create an abnormal pregnancy. a m/c is the body's way of ridding itself of something unhealthy or abnormal. your symptoms make sense for pregnancy - bloated is a definite symptom and that's probably why you feel fatter and why you feel like your stomach is hanging out. lighter cramps are also normal - when i was pregnant i would wake up with a sort of dullness in my stomach but once got up and about it subsided. but cramping anyway is normal - your uterus is stretching and baby implanting -lots of things going on. i don't recall being overly hot, but it makes sense - especially since the weather outside (depending on where you are i guess) is certainly warmer than usual. to my unprofessional ears, everything sounds okay. I don't know what the symptoms for twins would be, but i would think the same and maybe a little stronger or start a little earlier (which it does sound like your symptoms started pretty early - 4 weeks and a few days is pretty earlier)i have twins in my family too - my mom was a twin. and with clomid you certainly have more chance - do you know how many eggs you ovulated? good luck, feel good (or bad b/c if so it means your symptoms are sticking around), and try not to worry. when's your first dr.'s appt.? hopefully after you get some blood work done and/or u/s you'll be calmer.

Thanks.  I appreciate hearing that.  It does make me feel better, it really does.  Strange how hearing something like that from a stranger really is nice.

I'm glad my symptoms are normal, like I said, I can't remember what it was like, that was over 4 years ago.  It's been in the triple digits, so maybe that's why I'm sooo hot.

I haven't made a doctor appointment.  I was going to call tomorrow or Friday.  I don't think he'll do any blood work or any U/S this early for me.  I haven't ever had a high risk pregnancy, so I don't think he'll treat me that way.  I'll probably go in, have him check me, and then schedule an appointment to see him in another 4 weeks.

About how many eggs I've ovulated, I would have no clue.  I'm assuming at least one since I'm pregnant! :)

what i meant about how many eggs you've ovulated is that would help you know your chances of twins or multiples. a lot of times on clomid more than one egg releases - due to the extra stimulation and that's why more chances of multiples. while i'm on medication to help fertility along i go to the dr. too to monitor my cycle, check that med. is working, and he tells me how many eggs are ovulating and from which side - this way i have little pep talks with those eggs :) and since i also do iuis those sperm get real pep talks!! :) anyway wish you lots of luck and good health -whether one, two, or more!!

You may be hot b/c Clomid does in fact cause hot flashes.  You may have also heard about it causing miscarriage b/c it also makes cervical fluid less tolerant to support getting pregnant.  However, I don't think that this has any affect if indeed you did get pregnant.  I am not a medical expert, but I have done a lot of research myself.  Good luck to you.  My fingers are crossed.

And pregnancy itself can cause hot flashes too.

I got pregnant with my daughter of 1 year on clomid and never had a problem. She is wonderful. I needed to take blood thinners during my pregnancy  daily due to blood clotting issues that prevented previous pregnacy from suceeding. There was never a problem with the clomid for myself and for my daughter. I wish you the very best! And as far as the twins situation...my father is the eldest twin of 4 sets in his family and his twin sisters and brothers have had twin but out  I have never had any on clomid.

You and I are on the same boat!  I am pg with my first cycle of 50mg Clomid and am 4W 5 days.  I'm bloated beyond belief, gassy, lightheaded.  I've also have a 2 m/c's prior so I am very nervous about this one.  If anything I'm hoping the Clomid helped me produce a better egg to avoid m/c.  I had timed intercourse with mine.

I have a question for you, I hope you don't mind. Did you have timed intercourse or IUI for your pregnancy (I hope you did not answer this on a previous post and I did not see it, sorry). I may be starting a practice cycle next month (clomid), so your post was encouraging.

ssfaze - I took Clomid on days 5-9 and starting on day 8 we BD every other day.  I started using OPKs on day 11 and on day 17 I had my LH spike.  So, we BD on that day and the following day.  I didn't have an IUI.

Hope that answers your question.

chichi7374 - I believe today I am at 5 weeks - going from the start of my last AF (June 16).  How exciting.  How it goes well for us both.  Baby dust!!!  I'm calling today to schedule my first appointment.
