I have been extremley sick with Broncitus & Asthma very bad. I was put on AmoxicillinAmoxicillin Amoxicillin-clavulanate Amoxicillin/clarithromycin/lansoprazole but it just was not helping, I was sent to ER on Thursday after 3 days being on the meds, they gave me a breathing treatment & put me on Predisone to help my breathing. I'm 24 weeks pregnant, They said that it's safeSafe driving for teens Safe sex for the baby, and I called my OB and they said it was ok as well, but I'm a littleLittle noses decongestant Little tummys pranoid. They put me on a real small dose, tomorrow is my last day of taking the meds, I just want to see if anyone else has been on the med and everything was ok? I'm such a worrier. Someone also told me that the baby will grow more rapidly now is that true?? Please give me answers???
There are times in a high risk pregnancy that a woman is given a different type of steriod, called betamethasone, to help hasten the baby's lung maturity if preterm delivery is anticipated. You might be thinking of that when you say you are wondering about the steroids and growth.
Prednisone does not have the effect of helping the baby's lungs mature, and will not affect the growth.
You did the right thing getting treatment for your bronchitis and asthma. Left untreated, your health and your baby's health could certainly have been jeopardized. Antibiotics and prednisone are commonly used in pregnancy in such a situation. You needed them, and you do not need to fear using them.
