Questions

by mlaport, May 19, 2003 12:00AM
Hello. I am told to go on clomid. Except I really don't know what I am doing. I was wondering if some of you could answer some questions.
1) When do I take it.
2) Do I start counting cd days when I start my AF
3) Do I have to buy ovulation kits?
4) My doctor wants me to be on it for one month, and then after my next AF try to get pregnant on the second cycle of clomid - anyone know why?
5) What are some of the effects?
I would really appreciate some answers, even if it's just a couple of my questions. I know this is all things that my doctor could answer - but I called last friday to ask her, and the secretary said that she had just got a phone call in an hour ago, and my doctor is on a two week medical leave. So I aked to speak to someone else, but she said it would be hard to get ahold of them b/c they are taking up all of her patients also. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks so much.

Hello, it really depends on what he is doing, did he mention that he will be doing blood work the day you start taking clomid and then again late in your cycle If this is the case he wants to do a clomid challenge. It will let him know if you Ovulated during a cycle of clomid. The day you start clomid will usually be days 5-9 or 3-7 but could be different. The day you start af is day one.
This first cycle if it is just a challenge no you will not use ovulation kits because he will be doing blood work for that. Are you seeing a specialist or just your ob doc. Because I am not completely sure how the regular ob docs do there monitoring. With an RE specialist they do blood work a couple days after you stop taking your clomid and do ultrasounds to find out if you ovulated. Then they give you a trigger hsg shot which helps the process. I really do not want to scare you but I would not take this med if I were not being closly monitored. There is a slight chance, not high with clomid but there is a chance of Hyper stimulation or over stimulation, which is where you have too many follicles mature at the same time. Let me know how it goes and good luck. I will answer as much as I can. Oh the side effects::: you ready for this..some side effects of clomid are, hot flashes, mood changes, some have sleeping problems, nausea and vomiting was a big one with me but did subside after I stopped taking the med. My doc warned me about driving as well but that was ok, because another one was blurred vision. Now these seem like a lot but some women do not have all or none of them. There is one side effect of clomid that is the worst tho. it is well when you ovulate naturally you have more cervical fluid then any other time during your cycle. well with clomid it sometimes makes you a bit dry. There is a wonderful board at babycenter.com called the clomid board and they are wonderful ladies in there. I wish you luck and keep your head up, don't let all I told you discourage you or scare you. Ladies go thru this all the time. God Bless
