REPOST CAUSE I CAN'T TYPE.. I'M NOW 10 DAYS LATE

by KRISTI555, Jan 06, 2007 12:00AM
WELL I'M NOW TEN DAYS LATE, STILL FEELING PREGNANT. I WENT TO THE DOCTOR YESTERDAY CAUSE I COULDN'T TAKE IT ANOTHER MIN. I TOLD THEM THE SITUATION AS FAR AS THE NEGATIVE RESULTS WITH AT HOMES AND THAT I WANTED A BLOOD TEST, THE NURSE REALLY TOLD ME THAT BLOOD TESTS AND URINE TEST ARE THE SAME AS FAR AS DETECTING HOROMONE LEVELS. WELL SHE INSISTED ON DOING A URINE TEST, WHICH WAS NEGATIVE, BIG SURPRISE, AND THEN I TOLD HER I WANTED A BLOOD TEST, SHOULD I HAVE ASKED HER TO RUN A QUANTATIVE OR DO THEY AUTOMATICALLY??? EITHER WAS I'M STUCK WAITING UNTIL MONDAY FOR RESULTS.

First off, that nurse is an idiot!!  Blood tests and urine do not have the same sensitivity at all!!

The blood test is much more sensitive.

And I believe they automatically run the qualitative and the other part - not gonna attempt to spell it.  Along with the positive/negative part.

Good luck!

Have you ever been this late?

My friend got negative urine tests until after she was 6 weeks pregnant - around 2 weeks late.

I HAVE NEVER EVER BEEN THIS LATE BUT WITH MY DAUGHTER I TESTED POSITIVE DAY AFTER MY AF WAS DUE, BUT IN AUGUST 05 I HAD A M/C AND DIDN'T TEST POSITIVE UNTIL 6 WEEKS I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST CAUSE I WAS ON BIRTH CONTROL. THAT NURSE WAS REALLY AWFUL I'M JUST GLAD I PUT MY FOOT DOWN AND MADE HER TAKE BLOOF. NOW I GOTTA WAIT MORE, WHICH IT PROBABLY THE WORST PART OF THE WHOLE DEAL! THANKS FOR THE COMMENT AND PUTTING MY MIND AT EASE A LITTLE ABOUT THE BLOOD TEST :)

There are two kinds of blood tests- quantitative and qualitative. One of them (quauntitative, I think) has a cutoff level like a hpt does. The other can detect hcg at any level.

A Qualitative has a cut off (like a hpt) and will just show up positive or negative.

Quantative will show you the actual amount of hcg in the blood.

Oops, I got it backwards...couldn't remember which was which!

Thanks, pippsquike!
