Reaching Out for HELP!

by Jenny062108, Aug 07, 2008 02:52PM
Please don't judge this is hard enough for me to do as it is , I am 6.5 months pregnant with a baby gurl and have been taking vicodine my whole pregnancy not every single day but just about I'm averaging 2 pills a day . It's so hard to quit I have been doing these for about a year now I haven't consulted my OB too afraid and ashamed! I had a sonogram about a month a go everything looked perfect her measurements were great and she's still growing at a perfect rate they didn't see any adnormalties. I'm still afraid she might have long term health or mental problems and I just can't seem to sleep at night thinking about this can any one help with any suggestions or info? Thanks !

You HAVE to talk to your doctor about this.  You have to put your baby first and what is best for this baby is for you not to be taking these pills now OR after you have her.  That is what is best for you also.

don't try your hardest to bring it up. bring it up! you NEED to discuss this with your doctor. your doctor is your doctor no matter what and they typically don't tend to judge. if anything, he/she will admire you for being concerned about your baby's well-being. its likely to say that you and your baby will be ok, but you need to know for sure and your doctor needs to know so that he/she can proceed accordingly. were you taking the vicoden for any reason or were you abusing them? were they prescribed to you or were you obtaining them illegally?

Vicodin is not a medication you can stop abruptly. You have to taper off on it.

Definitely bring this to your doctors attention. You still have plenty of time to get off of it before your little one is born.

You're welcome and I will pray for you both.  Please keep us posted.

You need to get help from your doctor, you cant raise that baby being addicted to pain killers. The father of my son was severely addicted to oxy contin to the point that I wouldn't let him be alone with Noah. He finally stopped when all of our money was gone and we were going to be evicted. He has been clean for 14 months now and still sees a counselor every month. I know vicodine and Oxy's arent the same but it is still very dangerous. Not to mention that you could go to jail if you are caught with this medicine without a script. Please get the help you need. I will pray for you and your baby.
Good Luck

I agree you should tell your doctor when you see them next, its very important and you need to inform them..they can help you get off before delivery so the baby won't have withdrawls outside the uterus.  Its best to take nothing, but some women have to take pain medications during pregnancy.  I had to and I also have 2 surgeries with general anesthesia, I have a healthy, perfect 3 month old...do bring it up to your doctors, but try not to worry too, too much cause thats not good either.

I agree with everyone here, you must tell your doctor. If you can't tell them face to face maybe you can leave a note, e-mail or call your doctor and tell them over the phone? I would do it before your dr appointment, that way if your uncomfortable, embarrased and what not your doctor will bring it up and you won't be able to avoid it any longer. And you can start getting the help you need asap!

You won't have much to worry about if you are only taking 2 pills a day. I agree with everyone else that it should be discussed with your doctor, but I wouldn't worry a lot about physical or mental abnormalities if that is all you are taking.

Anytime you are relying on illegally obtaining medication to make you feel normal, that is a huge concern regardless of how much you are taking.  To me, that's the bigger issue, not the fact you are taking 2 Vicodin a day.

You need help with your dependency problem.  I wish you the best of luck.

Even if the baby doesn't have any physical or mental abnormalities, I would be concerned about the baby becoming addicted.  Vicodine is an opiate.. it is similar to being addicted to heroin.  Is that what you want to pass onto your baby?

Do something about it now, before you have done something that you won't ever be able to take back.

What is wrong with you, you obviously know you are doing wrong. How old are you, what do you mean you feel funny talking to your doctor. Some people can't have children and here you are hooked on drugs and admitting it. Do something about it. Talk to your Doctor in person. Take care of your child. Is this your first child? I hope all goes well for you and your baby, but really think about it.

by Agiesmom, Aug 11, 2008 01:10AM
I think you need to get off it ASAP and I would be concerned that the medication isn't pure or is tainted in some way.

You shouldn't wait another two and a half weeks and TRY to bring it up to your doctor, you should call tomorrow and ask him to call you back immediately and tell him.  He needs to help you get off them NOW.  And if it is true that you need to taper off, he may suggest you get into a program where they can monitor you and make sure that what you are taking is safe.

All the best to you and your little one.
