Really upset... Need help.

Really upset... Need help.

Dont know how to start this out. But let me just tell you I dont mean to upset anyone, I just need some answers.

Im a single mom to a 4 month old. I met this guy and we have been dating for some time now. Things happened and I ended up taking the morning after pill. I was very very worried about how the pill worked. But I was told that it was nothing like abortion.
Well, just 4 days ago I was cramping so bad I didnt want to move. I ended up going to the restroom and I passed what looked like a placenta with two little offwhite/pink bubble type things on it.
Im afraid to go in and talk to a doctor because I dont want to be looked down apon. I was told that all the pill did was stop my eggs from being released, I was NEVER told that something like this would happen. Im so crushed, I never ever meant for this to happen.. So I guess im wondering what could it have been.
Im not sure how many, if any of you had something like this happen. And im sorry if im posting in the wrong area, but ive been looking for places that would be able to handle something like this, but im having no luck.
Once again, Im really sorry if I upset anyone. I just need someone to put my mind at ease if they can. My mom doesnt seem to care about how I feel. She sorta acts like its no big deal, but it is to me.

I am sorry for your loss. "We" make the decisions "we" make and it is not the right of anyone of us to judge you. I do not have much knowledge of the morning after pill. I was under the impression it works only the morning after you have intercourse. Not after you find out that you are pregnant. I could be wrong.
If you are afraid to go to your doctor for the fear of being looked down upon, then you need to seek out another doctor. It is not their place to pass judgement either, they are there for their knowledge, support and medical advice. I am sorry to hear that you went through what you did. Sometimes it is just nice to know that someone out there does care. I hope you recover from this quickly. I would also like to give a little advice. If you are planning on dating this person further or moving on that you seek out a form of birth control. If you are able to take it, the shot of dextra prevara<not sure of my spelling> is supposed to be very effective and you don't have to remember to take a pill everyday.
Good luck to you.

I took the morning after pill myself a few years ago and it worked fine for me. I stArted my period a little earlier than usual but I was told to expect that might happen. I was also told that I may start my period as soon as a day after taking the last pill.

It is completely normal to pass clots while having a regular period and does not necessarily mean you miscarried. It is also normal to have cramps although that's relative. For me, cramps so bad I can't get out of bed are "normal", if I am not on the pill or nursing.

As for time frame, you can take the MAP as long as 48 hours after intercourse, although the longer you wait the less effective they may be.

As for what they do, they work in much the same way as the birth control pill. They suppress ovulation, however if ovualtion has occurred they can work to make the uterus a hostile environment for the fertilized egg.

I am sure you will be more careful next time, but as mentioned, you should think about more reliable birth control. And I also want to stress the dangers of having unprotected sex with someone you hardly know. You could end up with a condition way worse than pregnancy. I should know. I was ENGAGED to a guy who gave me an STD.

When you took the morning after pill, was it within 72 hours of the unprotected intercourse?  And was this the only time you'd had unprotected sex for a while?  The reason I'm asking is, if you'd just has sex 2-3 days prior to taking the pill, and you weren't already pregnanct before that, the fertilzed egg (if there was one) would be too small to see with the naked eye, and wouldn't have implanted in the uterus yet, so there wouldn't be a placenta.

Is it possible that you were already pregnant, and took RU-486, which would cause an abortion?  PLEASE know that I'm not trying to be insulting or negative; I'm just trying to figure out what happened. :-(  There's some info below on the 2 different pills.

From http://www.4woman.gov/faq/econtracep.htm#6

Emergency contraception ("morning after pill") prevents pregnancy. It works by stopping an egg from being released from the ovary and by stopping an egg from being fertilized, or reached by sperm. Emergency contraception also stops a fertilized egg from attaching, or implanting, itself to the wall of the uterus (or womb).

The so-called "abortion pills" (Mifeprex (mifepristone) also called RU-486) work after a woman becomes pregnant - after a fertilized egg attaches to the wall of the uterus. These pills cause the uterus to expel the egg, ending the pregnancy.

The "morning after pill" DOES NOT CAUSE AN ABORTION.  There IS another type of agent, called RU-486 that WHEN TAKEN IN CONJUNCTION with another agent called Misoprostil, can cause an abortion and is only used after pregnancy is diagnosed and the woman is THOROUGHLY educated as to the need for follow up care.

If you took the emergency contraception properly, there would be no developing of a pregnancy to the advanced point where an identifiable placenta would be passed.

I don't believe the pill had anything to do with what you passed.  It's always possible that the pill DID NOT work, and you had an early miscarriage, but the morning after pill will not work once a pregnancy is underway.

You can pass odd bits of tissue with a period sometimes, even if such a thing has never happened before.  You can have small fibroids inside your uterus that can sometimes slough off.  Sometimes just large clots that can have bits of endometrium in them.

Please try to not feel guilty.  You did not take a pill that caused an abortion.

Damali--
Yeah I took the morning after pill the day after, but then it happened again so I took more. The doc said it would be fine. At the same time I went on ortho evra, i havent missed a patch.
Before the time that I first had to take the pill I wasnt sleeping with him, so I wouldnt have been pregnant before.
I know you arnt trying to be insulting, I know you are trying to help. Im so confused and upset about what happened. I never took an abortion pill, I would never. A babies life means more to me than anything!
I will check out the link that you sent me, ive been searching and searching but im finding the same info.

If there is a Planned Parenthood centre near where you live you should talk to them.  They are alwasy extremely supportive and non-judgemental.  Although most aren't doctors, they have dealt wtih a lot and might be able to steer you in the direction of a suitable doctor if you still have concerns after talking with them....

The morning after pill, I know a bit about.  It only stops ovulation, it does nothing if you have already ovulated...take the example of my 3rd child :)

It is hard to keep from getting pregnant sometimes and if you are like myself, I am not the best person with birth control.  Condoms, UGH (although, by far safest for STD's), and birth control pills you can't take when nursing unless it is the mini-pill which my husband threw away because I was such a raging b#$%# on them.

Well, after my husband and my 3rd unplanned pregnancy in 2 1/2 years, we went for the copper IUD.  It is non-hormonal HOWEVER, it can be very dangerous to have in if you or your partner have multiple partners.

It truly is a form of birth control for strictly 2 people with only eachother.
So, maybe that would be a good form of birth control to think about.  Plus, no hormones, and if you decide you want to get pregnant again, your doctor just takes it out and there is no waiting period until you can start trying.

I don't think anything you did caused what happened to you and more likely than not, it was just an early period caused by the morning after pill.
Good luck to you with your little 4 month old~
