Removing Adenoids(adenoids) in kids....any info.

by RAWINA, Apr 10, 2008 09:30PM
Hi. My son is 35 months old. He has a problem breathing while sleeping. We did a sleep study, the result came back with obstructive sleep apnea. He saw an ENT, who did all kinds of tests and checked  everything, finaly it was his adenoids (adenoids), very larg, blocking his airway in his nose.
The ENT said the only choice is removing it. Did any of you have any idea or inf. that could help me to feel more comfotable. Thank you

my son had his adenoids (adenoids) and tonsils out at 5 yrs.  he would snore, choke, stop breathing while asleep.  they were huge!! the surgery was easy but the tonsillectomy (sp) was painful after.  not sure the adenoids (adenoids) bothered him but who can say.  what i can tell you is ever since (he is 9) there have been no issues at all, he breaths better and isnt sick hardly ever compared to then (maybe a coinky dink).  im glad we did the surgery, i was running to his room constantly checking on him and it was very scary to have him stop breathing even for just seconds.  good luck its a hard decision to have surgery but when it improves his life its so worth it.  just make sure the anesthesiologist
is one that works with children.

My dd had hers out at 7.  I wish they had done it earlier as it interfered with ther hearing.

my sister had hers taken out when she was 5 years old. it was very disturbing for me bcuz when she woke up blood was pouring out her nose and she was coughing it up and she looked so helpless. but it really did help her, ya know?
