Rise, drop then rise hcg level

by blueyesq, Sep 02, 2008 01:10PM
The first day of my last period was July 13.  Because of three prior miscarriages, my doctors started to monitor this pregnancy early.  On August 11 my HCG level was 183 and my progesterone level was 43.  On August 14 my HCG level was 343 and my progesterone level was  32.35.   Everyone was cautiously optimistic despite the drop in the progesterone.  Unfortunately, on August 18 my HCG level dropped to 150 and the doctor advised me that a miscarriage was imminent.  Despite the diagnosis, I did not start to spot or bleed.  I did experience mild cramping.  On August 25 my HCG level rose 1500 and the doctor was concerned my pregnancy was ectopic.  I went for an ultrasound on August 26.  The doctor found an empty sac.  I went back for a second ultrasound on August 28.  The sac was still visible, slightly larger but still empty.  The doctor tested my hcg and progesterone levels.  They were 3654 and 17 respectively.  How odd?  They are now rising.  I am going for an ultrasound tomorrow.  I still have not started to spot or bleed.  Any answers????

I had a blighted ovum (where the sac keeps growing, body thinks its pregnant but no pregnancy grows in the sac) in January of this past year. My HCG levels continued to rise and I kept thinking that it was a good thing and I was just "too early" or something.

My sac would get bigger and I just KNEW that I would see a fetal pole one of these days! Sadly, it wasn't meant to be though - hcg levels still rise as long as the sac is there, sometimes not as fast though.

After losing that pregnancy in January, I waited a month and got pregnant again in March and am now 25 weeks with a healthy pregnancy..

Congrats on your pregancy - hope we are that lucky!
Right now I am waiting for my hCG results. 7/26 was my last period. 8/30 i took a pregnancy test (or 2 or 3) and it was positive. a couple days later started to spot and cramp. The doc brought me in for a hCG test - it was only 65. Two days later dropped to 45. Went thru the whole m/c talk with the doctor and had a blood test on 9/8. The results came back just last week and it was up to 77. I got a message on my phone saying "not sure what is going on with you" and told me to get another hCG test. Won't get the results until Monday. Very frustrated. Thought this whole ordeal was overwith. (meanwhile still spotting and bloated)
