Roseola

My son (1yr old) was experiencing high fevers for two nights, getting as high as 104.2. We took him to the ped. and she told his he has a viral infection. Now he has broken out in this pinkish/red rash all over his body. Some are raised and some are not. My mother said she believes it to be Roseola. Any one else go through this with thier child? Should I be concerned? Any remedies for it or does it just run its course?

sounds like roseola. Could also be fifths, although I think the fever doesn't run as high. Definitely sounds viral and like something that will run it's course. If he has been in regular close contact with anyone who is pregnant, then you may want to get a diagnosis since some of these viruses can be dangerous to pregnant women. Otherwise, i'd let it be as long as the fever improves. Of course, if you have any concerns or if he continues to be sick, it certainly can't hurt to call the ped.

I agree that it sounds like roseola . . . fever first and then the rash starts.  The fever should go away but I must say----  the days of the rash were much worse.  My little boy was very uncomfortable.  It runs its course-----  we actually went to the doctor for the fever and while there---  I swear---  the rash started.  It was not on him before we got to the office but when she examined him---  it was there.  Doc took one look and diagnosed roseola.  good luck.  Love those viruses!!

wow! your little one got the rash everywhere! I've seen a lot of fifths, but his rash beats almost all of the ones I've seen.

My son had it, the rash only lasted a day for him....but I was so freaked out when he had the fevers.  I have never felt him burning hot like that ever.  Once the fever broke, a day after the rash came.  It was just lightly spotted on his belly and back.
