Ruptured Ovarian Cyst??? Symptoms???

This question is actually for a friend of mine. She has gone to the hospital and the doctors said that she has a ruptured cyst. Her white blood count is fine which means no infection...but she is now running 103 fever! She has pains in her upper right belly area....it shoots down to the lower corner, than shoots back up. She also has pains in her back as well. She couldn't get out of bed yesterday either. Not sure if any of you ladies on here have ever experienced a ruptured cyst....but if you have, what are the symptoms and what should be done?? How will you know for sure if it's your appendix? Could the doctor miss something like that? She will most likely be going to another hospital tonight for another opinion since she feels it's something more serious. right now she is just on pain meds...something like morphine.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!! =) I thought I would ask you ladies since I trust you all on here and always get good advice. Thanks!

A ruptured cyst would not likely cause a temp of 103.  What tests has she had besides the white count?

she also had an u/s. She's still having a lot of pain.

I think it's the appendix.  At least it sounds like it.  They should be able to test her blood/urine for that.  And abdominal pain on the right hand side plus the fever are the symptoms.  But the ovary is much lower than the appendix.  Ask her exactly where she feels the pain.  But my best guess would be the appendix.

Peek may know more.  I believe she is in the medical field.  I did get tested once though with the docs thinking my appendix may be bad and that is the symptoms they were looking for and the tests they ran (what I mentioned above).

BTW....They also diagnosed me with the ruptured cyst once.  I believe that is what they do when they can't think of anything else honestly.  I was in the ER.

She feels the pain the in upper right side and then it radiates down to the lower side as well as her back. From what I looked up, it seems like it's a ruptured cyst...but the fever is throwing me off! She is going to an OBGYN today to be checked out and try to figure out what is going on. She is always cold, then breaking out in a sweat. She just doesn't feel well at all. So we'll see what this doc has to say! I hope it's nothing too serious. I'll keep ya posted if they figure out exactly what it is! Thank you for the info!!

I know the pain I had was right over my appendix.  It was way too high to be my ovary.  My OBGYN agreed.  I went to my regular doctor first and he sent me to the hospital (ER).  They came up with the ruptured cyst so I followed up with my OB/GYN.  So, nothing ever came of it.

Is it possible to be an ectopic pregnancy???  The fever just would not be caused by a ruptured cyst but the appendix would def cause a fever and it can be very dangerous if left untreated.  If it burst, it can even be deadly.

Hopefully the OB/GYN will have a more thorough u/s done for her, but whatever it is, it sounds like it needs to be taken care of as quickly as possible.
