SAMe Can i take it while iam pregnant?

I was taking St. Johns Wart for Depression, but i stopped because i was afraid that it would effect the baby... I see the doc but i keep forgetting to ask so i am gonna try asking on here I found that SAMe might be better than St. Johns wart, but i am not sure if i can take it while pregnant... CAN I??

There is not enough information is available to determine if SAM-e is safe for use during pregnancy. The supplement has been studied for treating intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (a decreased ability of the liver to secrete bile), but only in the third trimester and only in IV, not oral, form. These studies did not indicate that SAM-e is likely to cause problems in pregnant women. However, results of these studies should not be interpreted to mean that SAM-e is safe for all pregnant women (in any trimester) when taken in any form.

If you are pregnant, do not take SAM-e (or any prescription drug, non-prescription medication, or supplement) without your healthcare provider's approval. Just because something is "natural" or available without a prescription does not mean it is safe, especially during pregnancy.

As always, ask your doctor before taking ANYTHING during pregnancy.
