SOS-Recent Back Surgery-risks for vaginal delivery

by FlintAcker, Feb 09, 2004 12:00AM
Looking for any and all information on what risks might be involved with a vaginal delivery following an L5/S1 soft tissue herniation surgery(I also have S.I. Joint disorder from a previous unrelated back injury, which is keeping me in alot of pain daily now that I am pregnant).
I am 38 y.o., 23 weeks pregnant and in good physical condition otherwise and have been told by a chiropractic friend that I should investigate this further.  I have wanted the vaginal birth from the start, but do not want to further injure myself in the process!
Any links or info appreciated!

I don't have any links to post, but I have and L4-L5 disk herniation myself and expressed the same concerns to my OB when pg with my son, I was assured it should be fine and went on to deliver vaginally. I was in a lot of pain for a while after (3+ hours of pushing straight in a curled position) Ask your OB and your doctor (neurologist or whoever performed the surgery) to confer and see what they agree would be the best way to deliver.
